Van Rompuy scorns direct election of (European) Commission president

Having public candidates for the Commission presidency during the next EU elections is not the panacea for Europe’s credibility woes, says European Council President Herman Van Rompuy.

While European parties look for figureheads for their EU election campaigns, the president of the European Council feels this will not resolve Europe’s democratic deficit.

“You don’t have to look for solutions to things that aren’t a problem. To go and look for ‘faces’ to guide the EU: that’s not a solution,” Van Rompuy said at a debate last Thursday (10 October). …

Giving his predictions for the upcoming May 2014 elections at the conference, Van Rompuy warned of a surge in euroskeptic votes.

Von Rompuy doesn't want direct elections because that reduces HIS PERSONAL chance of filling that position.

Nigel Farage has been quite articulate in debates as an MEP. Many good Youtube videos showing his critical analysis of the organizational and legal framework of the EU.

Thanks for the post. Glad others are watching developments across the pond--because these statist-socialist-humanists are all of the same breed, they follow international developments and cite them and draw strength from each others' successes, whilst we conservatives mind our own business, tend to our families and communities, and trundle on unawares as the leftists play their governance chess game.

Our clock is ticking. They're seating at the board. We're not even at the table yet. It's our move.

One more thing: I saw a video of Nigel Farage on Youtube.

Farage was unleashing on the EU governmental structure and personally on some of the elitists who defend it--and Von Rompuy was sitting there, SMIRKING.

For me, it was CHILLING. Smirking. As if he were the Devil, quietly saying to himself: "Everything you saw may be true, but no one will pay attention, and it won't matter...it won't stop me." He had that look on his face.

I encourage any and all Freepers--if you want to treat yourself to some of the best polemics in the English language, a real pleasure to listen to--go to YouTube, listen to anything by either Daniel Hannan or Nigel Farage.

Get some popcorn and a drink and lean back. Quality stuff.

I've had my son sit and listen to a few of them, as well as a speech each from Churchill, Reagan, and Thatcher, great speakers all.

Thanks Olog-hai.

That's because the EU has no credibility, and isn't going to get any. It's merely a high council of fascism.
