ATLANTIC CITY - If you tried to use your electronic benefits transfer card Saturday, and was having problems, you're not alone.

"I feel its going to leave a huge dent in these families because there is people who have 3 or 4 children," the Atlantic City woman said.

"I think its horrible that people aren't able to get their food stamps. There are families out there that depends on these things, to feed their families," explains an Atlantic City man.

As for store owners like Mohammed Ali of the 7–11 in Atlantic City, he says he has already lost hundreds of dollars...and still counting.

"We're losing a lot of business. Losing a lot of business. In Atlantic City, we have customers and it's the beginning of the month.

Which is when EBT card holders receive their food stamp benefits. With this widespread outage affecting each state's welfare program, residents have mixed responses.

"Its going to make a lot of people very angry, so you guys better get on the ball," says the Atlantic City man.

Next it could be a glitch with your government health care. Oops, I forgot, it’s already happening.

Lets ignore the welfare state angle for a moment.

Don’t these people have ANY stores of food in pantry or refrigerator? Even a single day’s worth?

Your grammar in the first sentence is pathetic. Where did you go to journalism school? Get a refund.

A government that can provide everything, can also take it away.

Maybe providing for one’s self isn’t such an outmoded concept?

Noticed that too, but the article is targeted toward EBT users.

We can rail against the entitlement mentality but the unspeakable truth is that the concept of self-reliance simply doesn’t exist for these people (?).

The indignant moralizing that accompanies ‘Where’s my free stuff’ is as appalling as the grasping hands themselves.

Paid liars for the government said the system was down due to a “glitch” in the system after running backup. My guess is that they are running a test for financial collapse or if His Arrogance doesn’t get his way on the budget.

Exactly, but not much play on the shutdown and how one’s health care could suffer.

Short answer: no. I was moving around quite a bit some time back, living in several different, high-end apartment complexes. One thing that struck me was that I never, ever saw anybody bringing groceries home. And, met no one that cooked at home. Young professionals earning six figures, with no food in their apartments, other than snack stuff. One young woman laughed at me, saying “Cook? Why cook? That's what the telephone is for. Just pick up the phone and order something.”

The article is dated October 12, 2013
“In Atlantic City, we have customers and it’s the beginning of the month.”
Since when is the 12th, ‘the beginning of the month’.

He most likely owns it. I am still mystified over the Muzi takeover of quick-stops in America. It started maybe ten years ago, certainly before I left. They had infiltrated even the rural convenience stores.
Was this a US government program?

in most schools, the kids of the deadbeats get fed twice a day, which just leaves suppertime. one lousy meal a day and they can’t do it. I guess they were too busy all day on ther obamaphone.

I don’t get it either. If you can’t get to a church based or free community/congregate meal site at least have cash on hand for food bank purchases. People that are literally starving can get emergency activated cards.
