Sen. Ted Cruz may be under fire from colleagues at the Capitol, but he was a hero to the thousands at the annual Values Voters Summit who praised him for refusing to give up his push to defund Obamacare and helping ignite the government shutdown.
While other potential 2016 presidential candidates also spoke at the summit, Mr. Cruz emerged from the first day of the event as the favorite of religious conservatives in attendance, saying they back his nosurrender approach to politics that he has brought to Washington.
He has some talents and facilities from God for just delivering a direct message, but I think the other thing is that he is not afraid, said Annie Pati, who said she is in her 60s and from Houston. I think its tremendously inspirational to see someone who doesnt fear anyone even though they know there is going to be a big X on their back, and he still goes on fearless.
. . .
Im going to suggest a model for how we turn this country around in the next couple of years, Mr. Cruz said. And it is the model that we have been following together for the last couple of months, to stop that train wreck, that disaster, that nightmare that is Obamacare.
. .
His speech was interrupted by a halfdozen protesters who demanded he back a bill granting a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants, such as the one Mr. Rubio advocates.
The Texas repeatedly deflected the criticism and turned it into an attack against President Obama.
It seems that President Obamas paid political operatives are out in force today, Mr. Cruz said. And you know why? And you know why? Because the men and women in this room scare the living daylights out of them.

Please let me know if you want on/off this ping list.
Please beware, it is a high-volume ping list!

YES is see a resemblance!
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” - Samuel Adams
Good quotes.
If Ted Cruz runs for President in 2016, he will not only have my vote..but I will bust my ass and do everything it takes to make sure he is the next President of the United States..a Cruz/Palin(or the other way around) Administration would be absolutely PERFECT. God Bless you Ted Cruz, keep speaking for us we need you!
I wonder who else Cruz would have to go up against in the primaries if he does decide to run in 2016.
IDK. I like what Cruz is saying and doing but I find it interesting that no prominent Repub is trying the Reagan way. Not one is trying to emulate the Great One. Why so? Do they not believe in the Reagan way? Do they think being associated with him is the proverbial 'kiss of death'?
If I were younger and even thought of running for any office, I'd be loud and proud about my admiration of Reagan and would do my best to follow his footsteps and policies.
Why so no Repubs embrace such a winning idea?
Correction:
I hope Cruz is in in the GOP primary for 2016. If he is I think both Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump will stay out unless they feel that being in there will somehow help Cruz win the GOP nomination.
I wonder who else Cruz would have to go up against in the primaries if he does decide to run in 2016.
Absolutely!
Thank you so much!
I'll vote for Ted Cruz in the 2016 GOP primary and be proud to do so.
I wonder who else Cruz would have to go up against in the primaries if he does decide to run in 2016.
This is just speculation but I can see Chris Christie, Jeb Bush and, perhaps Marco Rubio as possible contenders but Cruz should be able to defeat them all by '16.
Thanks SoConPubbie.
As Cruz hews to hard line, other 2016 contenders go mute on shutdown
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/3077997/posts
[snip] ...in the aftermath of Cruz’s fiery speech... The shutdown went unmentioned by Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), both early champions of the defunding battle. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who is working toward a compromise with the White House on the shutdown and debt ceiling that does not erode ObamaCare, made a short argument for his alternate plan in Friday afternoon video message to the group... Paul’s and Rubio’s dodges, and Ryan’s implicit rebuke, demonstrate that they are seeking to avoid being tainted by the fight’s fallout while avoiding any confrontation with the partys base. Cruz used his speech to frame the debate over ObamaCare and the government shutdown in stark terms, painting it as a key battle in the larger war for individual freedom. [/snip]
If so, I think we’ll see Donald Trump knocking Jeb Bush out of the ring.
I’d vote for Cruz in a heartbeat.
Bush, Christie and Rubio..perhaps Paul. Maybe others.
Almost certain Christie will lose big time in the heartland.
Rubio’s star is gone and Bush isnt going anywhere.
Paul has a following but he will never make it. Id bet he will run as a 3rd party after Cruz secures the nom.
