Mayor Rahm Emanuel has $5 million in his reelection campaign coffers more than a year out from the filing deadline, but with lagging poll numbers, the sharks are starting to smell blood in the water.
Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis, a longtime vocal critic, says Emanuel is vulnerable, and believes he'll need every penny of his campaign war chest to win another term.
"I believe there's this notion that if you have a lot of money that you can overwhelm your opponents and we don't believe that. We believe that the number of people going to vote is what's going to be important," Lewis said. "His polling is what it is. He hasn't released the polls, but I think other people have been doing them, and we know what the numbers look like and they're not good for him."
Lewis says Emanuel has alienated all of Chicago, but when asked if she'd consider running against him herself, she said she's happy with the job she has.
The mayor's office did not return calls asking for comment.

Who knew? The spiteful Emanuel brothers have spent a lifetime stepping on other people's toes and picking fights.

Those speed cameras popping cars a thousand a day will toast Emmanuel. But it won’t be Yoda running against him, it’ll be the Cook County president, Toni Preckwinkle and she will be formidable.

Chicago will be fine as long as there is still something to be looted by Ubama, Emanual, Jarret, and the rest of the descendants of the Al Capone mob. Could take years before the place becomes another Detroit.

Chicago is certainly in plenty of trouble. The school kids are getting an education on the streets in a criminal war zone while city goes bankrupt.
Yet more importantly, how many of her operatives will be reporting the "actual" vote tallies? Even Joe Stalin was more honest, candid enough to draw attention to the fact that those that count the votes "decide everything" while those that merely cast their votes "decide nothing".
It's been long- and well-known that many precincts in Chicagoland have the worst kind of RINOs (actual Dems) playing the roll of Republicans in polling places.
