OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday that the income gap in the United States has increased to the point where members of the middle class resemble the Americans who lived in poverty when he occupied the White House.

When even Jimmy Carter places the Obama administration below his, you really have to question the IQ of the electorate in 2012.

he did not blame or rate Ovama administration..

He sees this and I afree with his characterization of the middle class, as due to patterns of taxation, etc, causing wealth or income gap.

It didn’t get so bad under Jimmy because Jimmy only had 4 years.

Read the story.

Carter states why he feels this way, and then adds his two cents. What he encourages is more welfare and more handouts.

He admits our economy sucks, but his answer to the problem is as dead wrong as he always was.

I really is pure crap. Today’s American “poor” have a standard of living that would have been envied by billionaires of a hundred years ago, in spite of Obama’s best efforts to impoverish all of us.

Carter is another example of a politician who always worked for the government and never had to manage a budget. Obama is an extreme example of these individuals who cannot do the math.

More welfare means more debt which forces more taxation which impoverishes more people. A rather simple process but one that leftists block from their thoughts.

Carter, Obama, and nearly all Dems — can’t do math.

I see. But during all those bad things he claims, the middle class was expanding and the unemployment rates were the lowest ever. Funny how low taxes and insufficient government spending are blamed for our current situation after a trillion dollar “stimulus” has been spent annually and the federal government tax revenue is growing.

Why would anyone give any credibility to anything that Carter says on any topic?

The problem is that today's poor often have a more financially secure life than today's middle class. They're getting close to being a cashless society when it comes to necessities, using any money they get for extras.

Meanwhile those trying to live at some level of middle-class lifestyle face job instability, increasing taxes and expenses and declines in their quality of life. The exception is public sector employees, who feel pretty secure in their middle class existence.

It's not sustainable. With Obamacare it gets worse. The more things that get subsidized, the more people will find a way to survive without working.

I agree with you.. The middle class is stagnating., I see it. Gov workers are secure but people who used to feel they were saving, paying down mortgages, not laden with debt are disappearing. It is awful to see them treading water.

Alot of factors but disheartening for the future.

It may be better to be poor with benefits thanna couple working with no benefits.

And add in the horror of public education in urban areas and it is back breaking.

I give that dumba$$ credit for nothing.

If it were up to me Carter would be forced to build a house on his own with no help, and both he and O’bastard would have to live in it.

I vote that 1/2 mile north of the Mexico border in AZ as the location too.
