Peter King: No, I won’t sign the Democrats’ discharge petition to force a House vote on ending....
Hot Air ^ | Allahpundit | 4:41 pm on October 7, 2013

Posted on 10/07/2013 2:00:37 PM PDT by 11th_VA

Via the Corner, the exciting conclusion to Friday afternoon’s drama about the Dems trying to force Boehner to bring a clean CR to the floor. Pelosi sent a letter to him on Saturday signed by 195 House Democrats calling for a vote; that means all she’d need for a successful discharge petition is 22 House Republicans to sign too — and coincidentally, there are 22 House Republicans who’ve said things to the effect that a clean CR would be awfully nice right now. Peter King, whose incessant Cruz-bashing has made him the new de facto RINO Pope, is of course one of them. Surely he’ll sign Pelosi’s petition, then, right?

Nope. “It’s not going to go anywhere,” he says, and he’s right. Like I said Friday, it’s one thing to bash the Cruz wing and call for an end to the shutdown, it’s another to promise your vote to Nancy Pelosi. If you’re going to jump off that bridge, you want to make sure the other 21 Republicans who’ve called for a clean CR are prepared to jump with you. Otherwise, you’re risking a ferocious conservative backlash over a discharge petition that’ll ultimately fall short of the 217 it needs, which means you’ve risked everything for nothing. And remember — King already has some experience with seeing Great RINO Revolts fall flat.

Very significant. Even Pete King realizes what’s at stake here: the existence of the House.

Ya see, King would sign the petition, only " you want to make sure the other 21 Republicans who’ve called for a clean CR are prepared to jump with you. "

...still a rat bastard.

Doesn’t it also show that the House is still sort of following the Cruz lead here???

Cruz’s leadership is a tour de force!!!

Agreed...He may be taking a lot of heat about his bashing of Sen. Cruz and figures signing this goes way too far.

This decision could be self preservation.

Not buying that he’s doing this for any good reason, except to blow with the wind.

Try this: Block you caller ID. Call King’s office. Not the DC, one, the district one. Tell them you’re a constituent.

Tell them what you think of King, and his recent shenanigans. . They’ll mock you and laugh at you, and then hang up on you.

This guy thinks he’s untouchable.

Peter King is in the senate. He is not in affiliated with the house. He won’t try to force then senate to vote on budgets for the past five years or the original CR from the house. What business does he have commenting on forcing the house to do anything. Clean your own chamber you RINO troll!

Peter King is such a loose cannon. He's not even a reliable RINO.

You can hate him for a while, and then he does something oddly conservative so you give him the benefit of a doubt for a little while and then he screws you again. Rinse and repeat.

To his credit, he does take the threat of militant islam seriously and votes accordingly.

I went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch today. There was a van with government plates in the lot.

Guess some parts of government aren’t shut down.

I took an hour lunch...van was still there when I left.

Guess some federal employees take a long lunch, even in a shutdown.

Are all Democrats going to sign the petition?

It is not a good political move for Mike McIntyre. McIntyre is to the right of Peter King on more important issues. They are not going to sign it after a week.

I think the what will happen is Obama will illegaly raise the debt limit and even the RINOs can use this as a talking point. Saying that even in their own RINO world they would not be as bad as Obama.

The sad thing is the dems could have gotten the 22 signatures had they waited until they actually got them to sign before bragging about it.

They’ll know better next time, which will be sooner rather than later (raising the debt limit).

House Republican leaders have learned that giving King free rein may actually be the only way to deal with him.

He is, after all, the man who said the GOP’s romance with Christian evangelicals was turning the party into “barefoot hillbillies who go to revival meetings.”

He unfailingly supports labor unions.
