WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said he does not expect to have to take any unusual steps to prevent the United States from defaulting on its debt because he believes Congress will raise the debt ceiling before a looming October 17 deadline.
"I don't expect to get there," Obama said in an interview with the Associated Press released on Saturday. "There were at least some quotes yesterday that (House of Representatives) Speaker (John) Boehner is willing to make sure that we don't default," he said.

Exactly. The debt ceiling has nothing to do with default unless he wants it to. And if he violates it unilaterally then the House MUST impeach. If they don't then they are agreeing with him and he will have gained unlimited power.
I just read another article that estimates the government shutdown only cuts spending by about 17%. The government normally spends about $1 trillion more than it takes in, so it borrows about one out of every four dollars it spends. Unless I’m misinterpreting this, we are continuing to run a deficit even with the government shutdown, albeit a smaller one than we would otherwise.
They are on a deferred pay vacation. Even Cantor wants to make sure they get their back wages. They are doing nothing now, but everyone expects them to get paid. It's just possible that the paycheck will come at the end of the vacation.

Essential Government employees continue to work, but will not get paid until a budget is approved (payment deferred).
Non-essential Government were furloughed. They are eligible for unemployment compensation.
Payment for non-essential employees must be separately approved by Congress.
If Congress approves it, then non-essential employees get (1) their full pay - deferred, (2)unemployment checks and (3) a free vacation.
Who gets screwed here?

For my part, the government can shut down until hell freezes over if that’s what it takes to stop Obamacare. Obama is demonically possessed and evil permeates his soul.
