the golf course is a money earner as is the BX so they stay open

So are the campgrounds at the National Parks and Forests. They kick the last of the campers out today, even though the parks make much more money than they cost. The private companies that run the parks were ordered to lock 'em up, and as a final insult, were ordered to purchase the Barrycades to keep us out.

Earning money is not a factor for Obastard. Earning money is evil.

The more this unfolds, the more it looks like Valerie Jarret’s fingerprints are all over it.

To be fair, Obama and his people often lie about their plans.

so am I

If commissaries are “federal welfare” what is “untruthful” about considering all military compensation as “federal welfare” and therefore on the same level as handouts to people who contribute nothing?

Try being rational sometime, we’ll all feel better

I am retired Army and you are correct. I laughed out loud when I read that General said GIs save 30% in the commissary.

Lol. I have seen many people use welfare when getting federal funds. Heck people say it about the farmers in Iowa all the time and that is just one example, however for this case, I will use federal funds. Your right I do feel better. Thanks for your service!

Part of the military compensation package

Has been for decades

Go talk to a recruiter

He’ll tell you about all the benefits of signing up for military service. Go for it! Sign up your wife and kids too!
See the world. Meet strange and exotic people from many cultures. Who want to kill you. Unless you kill them first. Just watch out for a court martial if you do.

PS: Military doctors nurses technicians etc and dentists are federal employees too. Part of the “free medical care for life” sold to sign up 30 years ago. Except now it aint free, rules changed. Retirees get MEDICARE (oh there we go using federal welfare again) and pay to use military facilities if we can even get in.
FOOLED US!

Hope this explains it. If not a recruiter can help ya

AAFES budget comes from sales. The local BX has not shut down and sent out email saying they will remain open.

“I wanted to let you know that the Exchange will remain open should the federal government shut down. Although the Exchange is part of the federal government, 97 percent of our budget comes from customer sales, less than 3 percent from tax dollars. Some transactions may be delayed, such as the purchase of firearms, which require background checks or other federal government actions.

The Exchange will do everything possible to continue to support the men and women who serve America and their families. Feel free to send a note if you have further questions.”

Meh, some of my remaining active duty friends are complaining abt commissary closures but using coupons and going on military discount day may save you more money. Kind of like what the civilian world does every day!

Just like the civilian world keeps an eye and ear on the TV to find out if the Afghan base or Middle East carrier group their spouse is deployed to took any casualties overnight, eh

Daughter says the NEX is open because they sell uniforms. But the commissary is closed. She and her hubby stocked up knowing this was coming. Their neighbors did likewise. Daughter and son in law are feeding some single guys who rely on being able to purchase food daily as the barracks do not have storage for perishable foods. So these single guys also bought food for daughter and son in law to store.
