Wal-Mart Returning To Full-Time Workers-Obamacare Not Such A Job Killer After All?
Forbes ^ | 09/25/2013 | Rick Ungar

Posted on 10/02/2013 12:23:13 PM PDT by GilGil

Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest employer, announced Monday that 35,000 part-time employees will soon be moved to full-time status, entitling them to the full healthcare benefits that were scheduled to be denied them as a result of Wal-Mart’s efforts to avoid the requirements of Obamacare.

There has to be an angle here. The only thing I can figure is that the Walmart employee is being put on medicaid which means the taxpayer is paying 100% of the premiums which is why Walmart can migrate everyone to dull time. This sounds like a very weird story. Something missing here.

Some sort of government partiality will be shown somewhere. Massive subsidy, tax breaks, etc...

NObama needed a win very badly so he got out the checkbook when threats stopped working.

My initial reaction is that Walmart screwed-over the employees it wanted to screw-over, and now is playing an angle to get their Dem (lib, whatever) customers back. From a PR standpoint, it’s almost genius.

Probably because they are trying to protect themselves from unionization. Putting 35 thousand full time is 35 thousand less to be unionized, which would cost Walmart in the long term.

Basically they bought silence.

Something’s rotten in Denmark. No way does WalMart wake up one morning and roll out of bed and decide to add 35,000 employees on to their health care coverage. No way.

And yet even here on a “conservative” web site no one jumps to the conclusion that WalMart just did the right thing for its employees.

We know who will ultimately pay for their healthcare and we do not like it.

If you can believe the warped left view of the author, Rick Ungar, Wal-Mart’s move to part time employees resulted in poorer staff performance, manifesting itself in stocking and customer service problems, and then in poorer sales.

This is plausible.

The move back to (let’s assume more expensive but more skilled) full time employees, will not necessarily result in better sales, as increased costs lead to higher prices, etc.

And as observed above, there’s more to this story.

deep pockets. small businesses are the ones suffering. heck, big companies are announcing health coverage for sodomites and their “partners”...they have government connections and money.

Wal-Mart is the biggest retailer in America. Just because it can afford to raise its prices on customers to pay for Obamacare doesn’t mean competitors can do so.

Probably a Orange Boner backdoor deal with the NRLB to make them unionize.

Small companies can use this strategy,
but large and even medium sized companies can’t do it.

They can’t avoid the health care costs by making employees part timers, because
the law requires accounting for workers on a “full time equivalent” basis.

I smell something rotten here too. It’s not really a union threat angle’ as they have dealt with these clowns at every attack possible for many years. The unions are out of ideas.

I think it must be payoff by Buttcrack’s regime or some inside deal that exempts from odumbocare.

I suspect the source for this new “policy” is either scrotal tickling or scrotal mashing by Urkel and his minions.

That is my point. The rest of the country is laying off and Walmart is going to full time. There is a big lie here but who can tell me what it is and why?

The article seems to suggest that they suffered from “The Home Depot” model. They went to temp. workers to save money but in the end sales r down due to incompetent staff. (It also mentions them hiring people to guide workers thru the Medicare signup process). If u can believe the article, it would seem as tho sales r way down and WalMart is looking to rebrand itself as a company who cares about its employees and will also have stocked shelves and plenty of checkout lines in the future.

For these large corporations I thought a waiver had been granted until 2015. So this is sounding like a very convenient announcement.

The present crop of Waltons are either Obama supporters Sam Rawlings Walton (grandon of the founder) who supported Obama with a $300,000 donation, and his dad Sam Robson Walton with a $1,000,000 donation to Obama’s Super Pac. the other Waltons supported Romney or Huntsman.

The Waltons realize this will damage their smaller competitors more than them. The whole Walton crew is all aboard the big government bandwagon.
