Sen. Chuck Schumer said Monday that if Republicans allow the government to shut down over Obamacare, they are sacrificing Americans to the “right-wing gods.”
The New York Democrat said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” there’s a “small hope” that the House and Senate can pass a government spending bill by midnight, but it’s not looking good.
“The question is, does Speaker [John] Boehner need to engage in something like the ancient practice of sacrifice, this time to the right-wing gods? Do we have to sacrifice the economy and help for millions of middle class people?” Schumer said. “It’s real people with real lives at stake, and just to sacrifice them to the right-wing gods, for the sake of a day or two of showing, ‘Oh yes, we’re serious,’ is a very cynical operation.”
Schumer said if a clean government funding bill — without any Obamacare provisions — came to the House floor, it would pass, but Republicans are afraid to show they’re wrong.
“If Ted Cruz is so confident he’s right that the people don’t like health care, there are places to fight that out. … I think he actually is afraid he’s wrong. And the only way to build his movement is by asking for something so unreasonable and so harmful that he knows we can’t give into it,” Schumer said.
Schumer said Democrats need to stand firm on the spending bill because if they give in to the “extortion,” it will play itself out again over the debt ceiling, which the U.S. will hit on Oct. 17.
Government funding runs Monday at midnight.

I have long believed that liberalism and the demoncrat party are religion substitutes for people who see themselves as too sophisticated for real religion. Chuck Schmuck probably actually thinks we have “right wing gods!”

Ya’ know? I see so many threads on comments Dems have made to the “news” media blaming Repubs for a shutdown. Are the media blacking out any Repub comments blaming Dems, or are the Repubs cowering in a corner waiting for it all to end?
Has anybody else noticed this? Liberals used to talk about the government helping the poor, but now they pretty much ignore the poor and talk about the government helping the middle class.
Why is that? Isn't the whole definition of middle class pretty much that you are supporting yourself?

The senate goes on and one about the benefits being stripped from innocent old people, women and children.
What they never mention is that these benefits are beyond our finances. They are being paid for with borrowed money.
Our national debt is 17 trillion, plus another 70 trillion in off the books liabilities for things such as Social security and Medicare. That's about 87 trillion dollars in debts the U.S. Government owes.
On a rough calculation that is about a quarter of a million dollars for every person in this country.

According to Brett Bair, the Peter King loser wing of the party is aiming to derail our plans by voting with Pelosi this evening! They’d be voting against not only conservatives, but also the leadership.
