Finger Lickin’ Frauds
RedState ^ | September 24, 2013 | Erick Erickson

Within hours of Liz Cheney, now a candidate for the Senate in Wyoming, announcing her support of Ted Cruz’s filibuster, Senator Mike Enzi, who Cheney is primarying, took to the floor of the United States Senate and declared he stood with Ted Cruz.

Pat Roberts, the elderly Senator from Kansas who may soon be getting a stiff primary challenge, stiffly stood on the floor of the United States Senate to show he too stood with Ted Cruz.

Rand Paul, after NBC News reported he may disagree with Cruz’s filibuster threat, went to the floor of the Senate and stood with Ted Cruz.

Meanwhile, John Cornyn and Mitch McConnell and Lamar Alexander and other Republican Senators are leaking attacks against Cruz on background. They complained to reporters about Cruz suggesting they were cowards. They did so off the record and in the shadows.

Mitch McConnell, instead of standing with Cruz on the floor of the Senate, participated in a teletownhall in which he told listeners the only way to stop Obamacare was for him to be Senate Majority Leader. [update: this information came after the initial post]

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will not get the forty-one votes they need to sustain their filibuster. They will be betrayed by Republican senators who are willing to fund Obamacare while claiming to vote against it. But in this filibuster and in their brilliant strategy, they have exposed Republicans who will not fight. They have exposed Republicans who are so desperate for their own reelection they will say or do anything when they could not bother in off years. They have shown Republicans that there are Republicans who are willing to stand up to Barack Obama and to the cowards within their own party.

They have also exposed a lot of people on the outside as frauds. To be sure, there are conservatives who have legitimate reasons to disagree with this strategy. But there are a whole lot who have been exposed as finger lickin’ frauds — willing to put their finger to the wind of beltway opinion to chart their course.

The Beltway Republican pundits bellyaching over Cruz and Lee fighting the fight others promised to fight is just a fart in the maelstrom of conservatives united against both Democrats and the finger lickin’ frauds within the Republican Party who talk a good game then fold like cheap suits.

Many of the Republicans who told conservatives to be good team players for Romney have shown that they will say and do anything to cut deals to undermine conservatives during this fight. Cruz and Lee are exposing them.

Cruz and Lee have brought anticeptic sunlight to the fight within the Republican Party. They are the men in the arena. If Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and with them Marco Rubio and others win this fight, they will be triumphant. But if they lose, at least they “shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

Had Cruz and Lee not done this, the ending position for the Republicans would be far worse than what it would otherwise be. Had conservatives not pushed Congress to the brink on the debt ceiling, sequestration would never have happened. Because Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, and their House counterparts have shown just how far conservatives are willing to go now, House and Senate Republicans know they cannot cave for table scraps.

But they have, in this, been exposed as willing to otherwise settle or table scaps.

Their was a time when these names and others, Graham, Lott, Army etc were "our" hero's. Now some of them are boarding on weasels and carnival barkers.

Our founders were right, come to DC and go back to the plow. It should be a painful duty, a calling, and get the heck out and go home.

Levin's Idea of reverting the Senate back to the State Legislatures and Term Limits are the solution to the Lamar's and the Johnny's from Arizona. It is way past time for them to go home, retire, and take up a new hobby.

Should I suggest growing prize rose bushes or auto restoration...

John Cornyn and Mitch McConnell and Lamar Alexander and other Republican Senators are demonstrating that they are cowards.

There is a time to stand with those in the right. These Senators should be returned to their home states in disgrace. Why are they standing with Reid and the Democrats?

Although this article seems to make an attempt, I still am waiting to understand the reluctance of some repub senators to support Cruz and to understand the outright opposition of some repubs to Cruz’s efforts here.

Generally a good article but without that important information. Exactly why do McConnell, Cornyn, McCain, Graham oppose Cruz? What is more important than saving the country from further damage?

I emailed them of course asking such [along with the Ga contingent of dumbasses who won’t commit to support Cruz] but no answer.

Nearly as curious... with such an important question at hand, why is nobody answering it with any authority? Hell nobody is really even addressing the issue except for ancillary references to “GOPe” and “RINO”... but no reasons for a GOPe or RINO to oppose either.

The answer can only be - they support Obamacare. Why? The answer can only be - money.

Yeah I’ve thought that and heard that and it’s likely ... but what money? Are they being paid to support it? Are they invested in a company w/ a giant contract?

Specifics are needed.... not only speculation...

The irony is overwhelming. If Republicans would stand up for principle and what is right, their reelections would not be in jeopardy. I guess that they get to Washington and get so caught up in the wheeling and dealing of political power that they forget why they were there in the first place. We don't elect politicians so that they can maneuver themselves into positions of increasing power; we elect them to represent us.

There are Republican senators that would sell out their country just to be on the DC cocktail party guest list.

Today is another day to fight folks!

Either that, or someone has some dirt on them they don't want to see the light of day. It has to be really career wrecking if they will go this far out on a limb to keep it quiet.

Their problem is they listen to the beltway political consultants who are almost all liberal, big-governement, high tax advocates for the simple reason that the more money and power the Fedgov has the more money and power they will have by extension. This is the problem with Washington, it’s influenced by a self-serving bureacratic class and corporate media cohorts.

It’s complicated. But incredibly, with ACA, it will be less expensive to go to a doctor and get a prescription for a common ailment than get an over-the-counter remedy. The pharmaceutical industry is benefiting big-time from ACA. And they were lobbying years ago.

Sure, Mitch, we would trust you to stop Obamacare. Sure. What a jerk.

The REAL question will come at the ballot box when these same RINO’s (Ba$tards, all of them) are up for re-election. BUT, will the voters remember how these same RINO’s ducked for cover while passing odumbocare? I think NOT.

What about the RNC also saying they stand behind Cruz and his efforts to defund odumbocare? Remember the RNC supports ALL the RINO’s too. What a mess the Repubs have brought upon themselves.

Money, and the power that money gives one over others.
