Canada:How some Colorado plumbers stopped U.S. gun control in its tracks

head brothers gun
A+
By William Marsden, Postmedia News September 19, 2013

WASHINGTON — Adam Head and his brother Victor, two gun-toting plumbers from Pueblo, Colo., were sitting around Victor’s living room with a few friends last March pondering their next move.

The two brothers had spent weeks campaigning against a proposed state law that would ban gun magazines larger than 15 rounds and would impose universal background checks on all private purchases at gun shows. But to no avail.

The Colorado legislature had just voted to pass these restrictions into law and the Head brothers were on the warpath.

While many Americans would consider Colorado’s new gun laws too tame, many people in Pueblo County disagree. They view the laws as an attack on their second amendment rights to keep and bear arms.

Their arguments aren’t knew. In fact, they are typical of gun owners across the U.S. “The Second Amendment is the only one that secures the rest of them, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press,” Victor, 29, said. “Without the second, those don’t mean s— because they could take them away from you at any given time unless you can protect them with the second.”

A Canadian view of what happened in Colorado. Notice that they give the impression that the money spent was about even, maybe a little more on the recall side, when in fact the anti-second amendment types outspent the recall at about 5-1.

...when in fact the anti-second amendment types outspent the recall at about 5-1.

I read right after the recall election that the ratio was 7-1. Either way, you know the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms are lying and the ratio was probably more like 20-1.

“A Canadian view of what happened in Colorado.”

Next time, never use any source with the word “Vancouver” in it. The Province and the Sun are the most anti-American newspapers in canada, with the Globe & Mail a close second. I;m from the city and I should know. I’m here right now on location shoot. If you knew how they stoked the deaths of American soldiers during the Iraq War, you would think otherwise.

>>“A Canadian view of what happened in Colorado.”

Next time, never use any source with the word “Vancouver” in it. <<

Consider the following equally valid perspectives:

“A barrista’s perspective of Particle Physics.”

“A born-blind person’s perspective on Picasso’s use of color.”

“A Los Angeleno’s perspective on the NHL.”

People with no Bill of Rights have no idea what they mean.

Up here in Canada they think they are free but are only one vote away from slavery.

They give away the National Post at every UPS store. I would rather read that as it leans to the right.

If you knew how they stoked the deaths of American soldiers during the Iraq War, you would think otherwise.

Just for clarity's sake, what do you mean by "stoked"? They wanted US soldiers to die? Or they were actually helping to make that happen (by donating to the enemy, etc)?

They had a series everyday right before the Iraq War,mostly editorials that galvanized the city to protest almost everyday in front of the US embassy, burning American flags and effigies of US soldiers. You haven’t seen or read the anti-American crap and if you did, your view of canadians will change overnight.

I forgot what exact week it was in 2003, but the analysis or report on the front or second page had a headline that read “US soldiers need to die so Bush will learn his lesson”. Sickened the sh*t out of me. Every effing’ lampost had a protest date and place every damn week. I laugh at these idiot freepers who think canadians are such docile and nice people.

While many Americans would consider Colorado’s new gun laws too tame, many people in Pueblo County disagree.

I smell the hicks form the sticks meme again. Many Americans think the Colorado laws are another asinine overreaching infringement on the right to keep and bear arms which will do absolutely nothing to stop a maniac in a gun-free zone from having their way.

They view the laws as an attack on their second amendment rights to keep and bear arms.

And rightly so.

Their arguments aren’t knew.

Who 'new' Canadians spelled "new" with a 'k' when they were talking about the age of a concept? No, the arguments aren't new, they go back to the Bill of Rights and beyond.

But then, if you are a writer having trouble with homonyms, maybe those concepts will elude you...(maybe the writer is a closet homonymophobe)

Isn’t Vancouver an extreme left-wing city, even by Canadian standards? I’d always heard that BC was mostly conservative, although that may be by Canadian standards. In other words, would this Vancouver bs be indicative of Canadian attitudes as a whole, or are they like the San Francisco of the north?

“Isn’t Vancouver an extreme left-wing city, even by Canadian standards?”

It’s like the San Fran of the north. Before I left for the US, three of us young guns headed the Conservative Party resurgence in BC, Vancouver chapter and Stephen Harper even had a rally here in 06. Now this is like George Bush being allowed a rally in the Castro District, and we managed it. Probably best achievement in my life. Then I applied to the Young Republicans to manage their social media department and they laughed at me...and people want to know why the GOP lose.

With Carl, it is all about power and money. He has been a stooge for the Bushes since about 1980, and if you want to know what the Bushes think, just listen to him.
