Billy Ray Cyrus has rushed to the defense of his pop star daughter Miley insisting that she has ''risen to a whole new level'' since her controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.
The 52-year-old actor and country singer said he is proud of his 20-year-old daughter and understands that she wants to leave her Disney image behind.

Matthew recorded the words of Jesus that seem to fit:
If anyone causes one of these little onesthose who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
What’s next? She cuts off her own ear?
she wants to leave her Disney image behind.
She has her new image is that of a money grubbing slut
She’s an artist like he’s a rocket scientist.
Next will be lesbian videos with Britney Spears.
The question here is how many times Billy Ray had to run to the bathroom to ... enjoy the pleasure of his own company ... during his daughter’s performance.
So what’s next? He does a remake of his Achy Breaky Heart video with her as a nude dancer? Some people just should not be allowed to be parents.
Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus said he was scared for 18 year-old Miley after a series of scandals including an infamous video last year which showed her getting high on the psychedelic herb salvia. And he said he wished that "Hannah Montana" had never happened.
"The damn show destroyed my family," Cyrus told GQ magazine in an interview for its March edition. "I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just everybody be okay, safe and sound and happy and normal would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could..."
...Cyrus compared his daughter's current situation to celebrities like Kurt Cobain, Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson, who all died in tragic circumstances. "I'm scared for her," Cyrus said of Miley. "She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she's 18 but I still feel like, as her daddy, I'd like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger.
Money grubbing slut IS Disney’s image.
Teenagers call it “The Disney Slut Factory” for a reason.
Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus... and a lot of their male child stars too.
This isn’t coincidence. The agents and tallent scouts run a system that was installed when Micheal Eisner was CEO of Disney starting in the mid eighties. The same guy that created “Disney Gay Day” gave us this.
How did Hilary Duff turn out? She doesn’t seem as trashy(at least not in public) as those other ones you listed.
Cool. When does she star dancing on the Disney Pole?
I was unfortunate to have seen the show on YouTube when people in my family were watching it to see what all the hubbub was about. It was like a train wreck, you know you shouldn't look, but it's hard not to when it's right there. The only message in that show was “Look at me, Look at Me, LOOK AT ME!!!!!!”
Whoever thought this loser would have the character to be a good father? No one is surprised that he is proud of his slutty daughter for getting so much press.
Timberlake is a great example.
Strippers consider themselves artists, too.
If I encounter this trollop - unlikely - I will drop a dollar at her feet in disgust.
“Sweet niblets” LOL
Who are the men that are handling Miley Cyrus?
Papa’s proud of her. And here I thought he’d do the right thing and get her the help she desperately needs, since it’s too late for a whoopin’.
