~SIGH~ So what you're saying is that if my wife and I wanted to maybe retire to that area (my wife thinks it's one of the prettiest parts of the state) and we were looking for some conservative values, (not to mention finding some conservative friends) we'd be out of luck?
Lots of conservatives in Austin...it’s the home of The University of Texas....Liberal professors and minds full of mush. Feel free to come on down and ad one more conservative to the mix!!!
No.
This comes up a lot, people understandably think Wacko Lib Austin PROPER is the same thing as its surrounding communities are.
Actually, lots of FReepers in that area. Beyond the city limits of Austin, in small towns, suburbs and exurbs there are plenty of common sense conservative, ordinary Texas folk.
Pick your spot so that you will be surrounded mainly by such people, and I predict you will NOT regret moving to Texas OR to that area.
Look for areas outside of Austin proper and Travis County and
you’ll find the grass root Texans that you are speaking of. You’ll
find conservatives in both locales but not as the majority.

Lived there for years and it is beautiful - not everyone's cup of tea but I thought and still think it is beautiful and I love to go back and visit but it is also "Big Blue Anus of Tx". But you can find Conservatives - just go a little further out than Austin proper. The outlying areas can be pretty "normal", fun, and relaxing.
Lots of good day-trips around Austin, too! Get a book on Austin day-trips. Little towns like Boerne, Wimberly (not so little anymore though).
There is a wide variety of people in the Austin and surrounding areas!
May I visit when you get settled in? Heh........
Try Round Rock, TX. A bit north in Williamson County. Nice area. My parents retired there.
I travel to Austin often. During the Bush years, it was the only place in Texas that I saw bumperstickers with Bush’s name attached to words worse than found on bathroom walls. Lovely city. Residents not. We opted for Hill Country as our residence instead.
“proving that Austin is can truly be called the Big Blue Anus of TX.

Searching for a conservative neighborhood in Austin will send you on a longer walk than Diogenes search for an honest man.
The good news is your total wait time WILL be less than waiting for Godot.
Don’t forget to take lunch.
;-)
Austin is the least conservative place in Texas bar none. There are plenty of places close to Austin that are really nice as far as scenery is concerned and MUCH more conservative values.
Austin is, shall we say, San Francisco and Berkley combined into one.
