The GOP Civil War Just Exploded Messily Into The Public

Republican divisions over the party's strategy in budget battles exploded into the public sphere Wednesday evening. In feelings that have been brewing privately for some time, House Republicans let their anger out at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). And they accused him of surrendering on the plan to defund the Affordable Care Act (AKA: Obamacare). Earlier Wednesday, Cruz made a statement that applauded House Republicans for proposing a spending bill that strips funding for Obamacare, a crusade that Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) have led over the past few months. But Cruz also conceded that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "has the votes" in the Senate to strip the defunding language from the continuing-resolution bill (meaning that the Senate could never pass the defunding bill). And he called on House Republicans to "stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people." In other words, he called on the House GOP to shoulder all of the burden of the defunding fight — the fight of which he has been the face. That concession, before the fight has even begun, enraged House conservatives. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) issued perhaps the most terse statement. "House Republicans have stood firm. We have voted to defund, repeal & delay Obamacare dozens of times. It is time for Sens. Cruz & Lee to show they can hold the line against Senate Democrats," Duffy said. "Let's hope they do not surrender before the fight even begins."

This getting ugly.

Perhaps a march on DC would help?

How certain are we that Harry has the votes. Mark Pryor in Arkansas, Begich in Alaska. Do these people want to vote for this?

I totally disagree with making this the issue, but if Ted Cruz is willing to grab this issue and run with it, I’ll back him 100%.

Go Ted.

Now about our trade deficit...

There is nothing to concede. It’s a simply a stark reality and no one has ever thought otherwise.

If the rules are followed then the House controls the purse strings. But we know how Boner thinks.

Messy is standing before a death panel picked by Big Bro and Big Sis or the IRS and begging for your life or the life of your family. That’s messy like the Gestapo standing in front of a boxcar and deciding who went to forced labor and who went to Auschwitz!

At what point, do We The People find their spine, guts, and gonads to stand up and demand that we be heard. This is about our future and our children and grandchildren’s future????

Sure in politics the truth is taboo. Look what it did to Ron Paul.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Why do Repubs let their dirty laundry get aired to the public via the "news" media? When will they ever learn the US media will never like them, much less be on their side?

Your comment intrigues me (seriously and with no disrespect intended). I love political strategy and would genuinely like to hear what issue you would use to control the political narrative. Thanks in advance!
