Mark Steyn is a poet and his writing is brilliant and satirical. His irreverence toward silly leaders and his use of allusions to history are often hilarious
Prophetic is premature. This negativism and doom may be warranted in terms of eventual outcome, however, we do not know yet.
We have our Constitution and the good will of many educated people.
Voter fraud and pay down of debt will have to be overcome. But we are not empirical Our leases are interested in power position and over abundance of personal cash but the philosophy of our country is not
I don’t expect WWII just because. And we don’t know what the outcome will be. Our problem does not necessarily stem from greed of land and power but could well be from moral depravity resulting from licentiousness against personal dignity and order brought on by the anonymity of technology and the resultant sexual revolution
Were not necessarily the same as Austria though the similarities he points out are brilliant
Pray for strong and moral leadership and for our children and we’ll see how this turns out
You are correct.
I did not intend to impugn the memory of the Habsburg monarchy, officials, and bureaucrats by comparing them with the Obama Administration. They certainly had much greater respect for the rule of law and higher standards for personal conduct than “the crass, glib entourage of self-cherishing and self-absorbed courtiers and sycophants surrounding the clueless 0bamugabe.”

I was thinking in particular of a scene from the novel, The Radetsky March, by Joseph Roth.
I wish I could find it online to post it, but in the scene the old Emperor is surrounded by his officials explaining things to him that he already knows far better than they, but allows them to continue because he doesn't want them to feel superfluous.
A great scene from a great novel.
When I saw “Party Politics” I knew this would go in one of two directions. Mark picked the more interesting of the two.
Clauswitz said that officers can be smart or stupid, they can be hard working or lazy.
Those who are smart and hard working are suitable for the highest level of command.
Those who are smart and lazy make excellent staff officers.
Those who are stupid and lazy, well, we can find jobs for them too.
But you have to get rid of those who are stupid and hard working.
Mark Steyn ping.
Freepmail me, if you want on or off the Mark Steyn ping list.
Thanks for the ping Servant o the Cross.
"In Sir Henry Wotton's famous formulation, an ambassador is a man sent to lie abroad for the good of his country. In the case of Susan Rice, a U.N. ambassador is a broad sent to lie to her country for the good of her man viz., Barack Obama."
So very well put Mr. Steyn.
"Out there, in a ramshackle outpost somewhere on the fringes of the map, brave Americans abandoned by their government are dying on a rooftop. But here in the metropolis the dazzling klieg-light luster of Mia Farrow and Jill Abramson plunges all else into shadow."
Things aren’t looking too bright for our future.
Sometimes Steyn depresses me.
Pundits like Steyn, Limbaugh, and others are very good at delineating the problem, but very short on offering solutions.
And thanks for the ping, my friend.
I am seeing Mark Steyn (and Laura Ingraham) on October 12th at the Goldwater Institute. I am so excited. He’s a God.
