McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts Seek Obamacare Changes

Fast food restaurant owners, reportedly including McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, are lobbying Congress for Obamacare changes apparently because when it comes to the Affordable Care Act, they’re not lovin’ it.

The industry wants the Obamacare-installed definition of full-time work to be increased from 30 hours to 40. A website called 40hoursisfulltime.com has been launched to support to effort. The Affordable Care Act requires large employers to provide health insurance coverage to every full-time worker, although the employer mandate has been postponed for one year.

Employers around the country — particularly but not limited to the restaurant industry — are retrenching when it comes to health benefits as a result of the controversial federal law. For example, citing Obamacare, UPS, the country’s fourth-largest employer, last month decided to cut health insurance benefits for thousands of spouses of its white collar employees. The Trader Joe’s grocery chain recently announced it was ending coverage for part-timers.

With the unions and fast food wanting out, we will eventually be the only ones stuck with this pig.

When the survival instinct kicks in, even large multinational corporations can act like camp kapos so they’ll hopefully be the last ones shoved into the oven.

LOL. Change the definition of full time from 30 to 40 hours a week and then cut everyone’s hours to 39.5 per week.

Cool.

so they can make you work 39 hours and not 29

I like the 30 hour definition

It would be awesome to work 3 10-hour days each week and have a 4 day weekend every single week

I would work my ass off for a job like that

It is the inverse. The bill defines full time as anybody who works 30 hours or more. They want that changed to anybody who works 40 hours or more. Most employers schedule employees around a 40 hour week and then deduct for breaks so average employee actually works anywhere from 30 hours on up.

To even consider 30 hours a week as full time is anti-American in the first place. This country used to take pride in its work ethic. No decent American would even consider working less than 40 hours and most many more than that to be successful. This is a bunch of crap. Lower standards mean this country is in the crapper.

How can they reduce the un-employment numbers if the 40-hour work week is retained? THAT is the reason 30 hours was picked, no question....we have Part-time employment as a norm today, because the economy is for sh%t....but you can’t make The Messiah look bad, dontcha know?

They’re lobbying CONGRESS for Obamacare changes? Yeah, that’ll work. Congress is right on top of Obamacare changes. Obama listens to everything Congress suggests... </sarc>

True: The ones who lose the most with the current full time definition of 30 hours are mostly the newer employees as many people I run into daily who work in convenience type stores and large home improvement store chains like Lowes and Home Depot have told me that they are covered by their employers insurance, but; the newer employees there are not covered plus cannot get 30 hours. I talked to several who work 28-29 hours and then work another part time job of 28-29 hours.

The progressives are the ones who have attacked McDonald’s with their 15 dollar an hour BS. Their study was done by a junior in college. He assumed the title of research assistant. Hell, the kid was a foreign student with no degree. He did not even consider the franchisees.

Walgreens announced that 120,000 of its employees will no longer get health insurance from the company but will have to go to the government exchanges, just as conservatives said would happen.

Obama was lying when he said if you like your present health plan, you could keep it. When will he, Pelosi and Reid be called out on lying through their teeth to pass ObamaCare? Certainly not by the worthless Big Government Republicans. If you are represented by one of these, make certain he/she hears from you. They should know that either they show some courage by defunding ObamaCare or they will be replaced next year.

“Walgreens announced that 120,000 of its employees will no longer get health insurance from the company but will have to go to the government exchanges, just as conservatives said would happen.”

GOOD! The more people that feel the pain of their stupidity for allowing this, the better...

If the demographics of Walgreen’s employes is even close to the US, then 50% or more voted for this garbage.

Let it burn!

Actually, I think they are directing their employees to a PRIVATE exchange, not the ACA federal exchanges.

Sadly this is what happens in all countries where the government takes the reins on healthcare.

Virtually all of the political debate oxygen is consumed in arguments over tweaking the health system. Leaving little in the way of time or resources to deal with other important issues.
