U.S. law enforcement officials are telling The Associated Press that the Navy contractor identified as the gunman in the mass shootings at the Washington Navy Yard had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder. He also had been hearing voices in his head, the officials said.

I think we have a bingo here, yes an affirmative hiring.

There were so many red flags here that I would never have this guy working for me. Let’s begin with the general discharge. I don’t know how the security forms read these days but there used to be a question: were you ever discharged from the military for less than honorable reasons. General discharges had to be explained. Another question: were you ever arrested, taken into custody or whatever for any offense, if so, explain.

These were probably removed as being too inquisitive, surely for security reasons, no one should be disallowed from a job, Yeah, right.

Unfortunately a “secret” clearance I think only requires a national agency check and a few written inquiries like former employers. Anything above requires a full field background check which takes time but in cases like this would have shaken out this scum before he got to the gate. Then again, that was years ago, today he is from a protected group and that trumps all.

I believe it was said that he’d just moved into a hotel in the area within the month.

LOCK UP THE CRIMINALLY INSANE. Quite trying to establish a “litmus test” for gun ownership.

Crazy f*&#s can kill with poison (e.g. tampered Tylonol killers), cars, knives, boxcutters, pillows, etc.

QUIT SAYING THEY ARE FUNCTIONAL. Clearly they have malfunctions. If they cannot be held accountable for their actions by reason of insanity, then they should lose the ability to roam freely. PERIOD DOT BINGO.

They’re saying he studied Buddhism....Do we really know that or is that what he told everyone. If I wanted to be a Muslim “under the wire”, Thailand would be a good choice.

The LIBs got rid of insane asylums because they anticipated that they eventually belonged there...all LIBs.

Thanks to one flew over the cuckoos nest? How about the end to nuclear power plants thanks to the china syndrome? LOL! There used to be a real big nut house between Slidell and Mandeville near Lake Pontchatrain and now it’s a state park.

Reagan's fault.

Um, no. Do your homework, and learn about the ACLU role in releasing the mentally ill unto the streets.

WHAT? I heard reports earlier that he attended a Buddhist temple. Not the news reports are ever wrong....... LOL! If he attended a Buddhist temple, he sure didn’t meditate and find inner peace.

“I have not heard anyone say where he resided currently.”

News reports this AM say he was staying at a Residence Inn (long term hotel) in DC. They searched it overnight.

NautiNurse is absolutely correct.

Read up, the ACLU was suing people, probably the Government for them to let the institutionalized out on the street with the ACLU claiming these people’s rights were violated. Look it up.

We get subjected to revisionist history on this as well.

Burning incense and all that.

If Alexis went to a Buddhist Temple, he didn’t know what was going on.

Ever eat a meal with Buddhists?? A number of them eat vegetarian so that would tell you something to begin with.

The Buddhists would think, especially in South East Asia, don’t eat animals because of all that Reincarnation doctrine.

The Dalai Lama eats meat because Tibet is such a high elevation country, it’s hard to have veggies the year round.

He also could have just recently snapped into psychosis. Many people are somewhat normal, then t some point, are obviously schizo or whatever. I also read his clearance was revoked, which is why he (supposedly) used the ID for the 50-ish year old man to get in.

They’re saying he studied Buddhism....Do we really know that or is that what he told everyone.

FoxNews reports that he was a member of a Buddhist temple in the Ft. Worth area.

That, supposedly is how he became acquainted with some of the Thai 'friends' who have been interviewed by the news media since yesterday.

Hitler was a vegetarian Tojo was the grandson of a Buddhist priest or something. They are not dis-qualifiers for murderers.

I’d be looking at what Drudge has up at the website now, the guy was into “violent video” games. Not saying that’s an excuse or reason but as to this conversation, probably as good of a lead as any.
