The President’s Next Act: Blaming the GOP For Government Shutdown He Will Engineer
Hugh Hewitt.com ^ | September 13, 2013 | Hugh Hewitt

And while the old canards are rolled out, the president will try and force a shutdown of the government for which they will blame the Republicans in an attempt to get the MSM back in its grove of loving POTUS and hating the Speaker. He has to bump headlines like this one from Friday’s Times: “Listing Demands, Assad Uses Crisis to His Advantage.”

To repeat: Again and again and again, the House has to pass bills that it points to while demanding that the Senate act on the same subject matter and proceed to the conference where the bills are reconciled. No grand strategies, no secret meetings. Not with the Clown Car down the street, not after these two weeks of an incompetence so epic it managed to restore Russia to quasi-Superpower status. If the Speaker needs help, he can call the Kremlin. They know how to manage this most feckless of presidents.

The problem will come in the Senate where Harry Reid –the last man in the world who follows Barack Obama’s orders evidently– is trying to get everyone to declare the House hasn’t done its work when in fact his Senate is obstructing getting to a conference on all these key issues since he cannot pass a bill on anything of importance. The government shouldn’t shut down, but if it does, it will be because President Obama and Majority Leader Reid want it shut down for political theater purposes.

Hewett, a charter member of the GOPe is already starting to whine.
Dear Leader gets his head handed to him at every turn on foreign issues, then kicks the GOP’s butt on domestic.
The GOP actually make Obama look like a chess master.
And they actually think they might take the Senate in ‘14? And the White Hut in ‘16?

You are whining about Hugh Hewitt who is simply stating what he thinks 0bama will try next. The Democrats are the party of cynical blame. This strategy only works when you have a Pravda media at your disposal.

I was just thinking the other day about what a genius move it would be if Obama can get the Dems to shut down the government in a way that allows him to absolutely fix the blame on the Republicans. It could probably tilt the 2014 elections.

Following the Cruz / Lee plan, the House would vote to fund everything EXCEPT Mengelecare and force the Senate (and Ubama) to decide whether to accept the everything-except-Mengelecare funding or shut down the federal government instead. That is, shutting down the government would be THEIR decision, not the Republicans’.

Sure, the Democrats and their newsrooms would have to spin like crazy, but if the GOP kept the message short and swett, they could win that PR war. It’s not 1993 - it is 2013, and the Democrats, through their “mainstream” newsrooms, no longer control the selection, dissemination, and spin of the daily news like they did 20 years ago.

All it would take to win is one Drudge headline: “Senate Democrats decide to shut down entire government rather than give up Obamacare”.

Ted Cruz said it best, “Let’s see if Obama is willing to shut down the government to fund Obamacare.”

Precisely!

Not one Republican will vote to shut down the gvt, just like not one Republican voted for nobamacare.

Yep, just look at what happened in the 1996 mid-term election after the Republicans were blamed for shutting down the government. They won that election and retained control of the House.

Wait... So, what's your point again?

I don’t know anyone who is all that spooked this time, if the government does shut down. The truth of who causes it does matter. Cruz and Paul are capable messengers. McCain, Graham and Boehner are not.

If 0care goes full throttle in January and we start what comes to be an out of control war in Syria, there will be no elections in ‘14 or ‘16.

So what? If the GOP has the guts to call the Commie b***ard a liar, and actually FIGHT him, they will win. Bob

My guess is that before the end of month Bohner makes a deal with Dems to pass a budget that they will vote for, so he doesn’t get blamed for a shutdown.

Obama-care funding is exempt from a shutdown,

No sweat, it’ll backfire once Obama figures out that noone notices for a millisecond when the gov’t gets shut down. Just as Reagan once predicted in his true political Nostradamus fashion.

Sorry but I’m pretty sure that’s incorrect. For all the times I’ve seen posted here at FR that the MSM is dead, they sure seem to have a lot of sway.
The only people who would even see a Drudge headline would be people who already oppose Obama.
One Drudge headline against every other MSM media outlet.

i’m confused

why would the govt shutdown? because we spent all the money and hit the ceiling? that happened on may 17th, 2013... and it keeps going due to the fact that the fedgov just stopped reporting the information

i think an appropriate response would be ‘whats good for the goose, is good for the gander’. by that i mean, if everyone stopped reporting income as of may 17th and only paid taxes on monies earned before, then the fedgov would feel it

(well, not really... as they’d just print more... which i always wondered why they need mine when they can just print... but you get the point)

I do not think we should shut the Government down over Obamacare.
At least with the current GOP leadership we currently have. Bonehead,
Cantor, McCarthy and McConnell have already proven they are incapable
of putting up any fight.
And to defund Obamacare would be difficult enough with strong leaders.
Impossible with the weak leadership we have. In fact, these DC hacks
would rather scorce the earth, than to allow conservatives to have power.
Until new leadership is in place, this is a fight that cannot be won.

One Drudge headline against every other MSM media outlet.

That's one more headline than we had 20 years ago. If you are saying Drudge doesn't have enough impact to sway public perception, then you haven't been paying attention. Even just a week ago the White House went into another tizzy over Drudge when he posted a picture of Ubama with his foot on his desk. Here. I'll help you out with your homework:

Obama’s foot on Oval Office desk sends shockwaves around the world

” If you are saying Drudge doesn’t have enough impact to sway public perception, then you haven’t been paying attention.”

If you think the MSM won’t steamroll and then tar & feather or just flat out ignore anybody that seems to be making headway then you aren’t paying attention.
So far nothing has managed to stick to Obama. That’s how much sway Drudge has.Until a few in the MSM start calling Obama out, Drudge is preaching to the choir.

If just one GOP with a pair of gonads would tell Reid “If you tell one more lie about me I’m going to kick your scrawny little ass” they’d get a lot further in negotiations.
