Let Johnny Manziel be himself
By Kevin Van Valkenburg
There is a vocal contingent of college football fans, and an even louder collection of media pundits, sports moralists and general know-it-alls, who cannot wait for Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel to grow the hell up.
-snip-
I want him to put on the black hat, so to speak, and score 100 touchdowns, steal 100 girlfriends, draw 100 penalties, and apologize for nothing. If he played the rest of the season like a cross between Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, I'd be ecstatic. I'd high-five my television screen. If he makes it back to the Downtown Athletic Club as a Heisman finalist, I hope he wears his sunglasses indoors, dresses in a tuxedo T-shirt, and brings Miley Cyrus as his date. When ESPN puts together a package of his 2013 highlights, I hope we set them to the Emperor's Theme from "Return of the Jedi."

Since we have not had a National Championship since 1939, I have to ask: You... got a problem with that?
I agree with you, with one exception. Let him party on, score big, and steal girlfriends, just so long as at least one UA DB gets a clean shot at taking his head off this weekend. I want that hit to replace the picture of Cornelius Bennett hitting Steve Buerlein in the museum.
Johnny Lohan Manziel
He’s going to be the Tommy Morrison of football
ESPN and the sports press should grow the &*ll up and stop picking on this kid. These schools like to refer to the players as the “kids” so they can exploit them for huge sums of money. The press then, as the proverbial bullies they are, pick on them and exploit them for the same reasons. What a sick combo.
Or the second coming of Bobby Layne.
All you have to do is look at that BS penalty levied by the NCAA on his first game and you know that they have it out for him.
He has become the George Zimmerman of college football.
Gig ‘em, Aggies!
very doubtful
Hopefully he puts a bullet right in the heart of the tide.
You’ve heard the stories Art Donovan used to tell about Bobby.
I said, Bobby you must have had a hell of a night last night. He said, I had a few at halftime.
Coming from a part of the country where fans don’t rabidly follow college sports, it seems as if it is the crazy college fan bases that cause the distortions and problems.
Let college kids play college games and commercialize only pro sports played by adults, I say.
If he continues to be an a-hole, people will always remember him for that and not his achievements on the field.
and I like to watch him play. I just hate the attitude.
Yep. Jackie Sherrill and Bear Bryant coached at A and M.
I hope they knock his block off. What a punk he has become.
Shouldn't that be the second coming... me?
Gadzooks! I certainly touched a nerve... didn't I--
