Gulf Arab states still want deterrent action against Syria

DUBAI (Reuters) - Gulf Arab states renewed their demands on Tuesday for the United Nations Security Council to take deterrent measures against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government over a chemical weapons attack that killed hundreds of people.

The statement was the first from the Sunni Muslim-led Gulf Cooperation Council, a main backer of rebels fighting to overthrow Assad, a member of the Alawite sect of Shi'ite Islam, since Russia unveiled a proposal to avoid military strikes by dismantling Syria's chemical weapons.

"The GCC condemns the ugly crime committed by the Syrian regime by using internationally banned chemical weapons, which resulted in the killing of hundreds of civilians," said Bahrain's Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed al-Khalifa.

He was speaking at the start of a meeting of foreign ministers from the six countries, which also include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Glenn Beck Digs Into the One ‘Layer’ of Syria Conflict That He Says Mainstream Media Are Missing

EXCERPT

Beck then noted that John Kerry said certain Arab countries have offered to pay for a U.S. strike on Syria.

“Wow, the kindness of their hearts! Or is it the kindness of their radical Islamist hearts?” Beck said. “It’s all about money and oil. They want a pipeline, and they are prepared to do anything to get [the pipeline that benefits them] as opposed to [the other] pipeline.”

“By the way, you lose either [way],” he added. “But it makes a heck of a lot of difference to Russia, it makes a heck of a lot of difference to Iran, and makes a whole lot of difference to all the people we’re cozy with.”

Sounds to me like Kerry and Hagel still intend on having a war.

Sounds like we’ve already been paid and our idiots are trying to keep up their end of the bargain.

I would wager the Saudis are livid with Obama.

I am certain this will all work out fine. /sarc

I’m certain it will all work out fine. We’ll write several hefty checks (classified information that the public won’t see)..... and Russia will claim the weapons were destroyed. And Obammy can say his tough stance brought Russia to the table.

Meanwhile tonight Obama plans to take some credit for possible diplomatic breakthrough on Syria’s CW @RobertaRampton s.scrbliv.me

...

NBC Reports: After an apparent diplomatic overture from Russia Monday, a group of U.S. lawmakers are working on an alternative congressional resolution to deal with Syria and its use of chemical weapons. The proposal, led in part by Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, could replace the limited authorization of force that a key Senate committee approved last week with a congressional directive to the United Nations, a source familiar with the negotiations said.

The alternative legislation would direct the UN to pass a resolution confirming that chemical weapons were used in Syria. Then UN officials would go in to the civil war-torn country and remove existing chemical weapons caches by a certain time.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has just stated on the floor that he will vote against authorizing the use of force against Syria. He becomes the first of the major congressional leaders to oppose the resolution (the support of Boehner, Reid and Pelosi last week was widely seen as key to the resolution’s chances).

what happens? That’s easy our dollar becomes worthless and most imports either stop or become unaffordable by all but the super rich. So yeah, the Gulf States have us by the short ones, they can, any time they want utterly destroy our economy. But first they have to find another protector nation with the might to insure they remain safe. Russia might be up to the job, dido China. So there is a great deal of pressure on our leaders to “free” Syria.

There aren't enough hoops for us to jump through to stop the process you describe. IF our policy is to be financially irresponsible - borrow from mafia loan sharks - then try to charm them into not breaking our kneecaps by offering to snuff out some of their enemies - you have a point... In the short run it's a solution... in the long run a loss... of everything.

Than they can muster up their expendable young men (human life in the ME being less valued than an American unborn baby) and go do some regime-changing themselves.

Putin’s personally powerful - but the Russian Army? Compared to ours they’re a joke. Gulf oil states would be fools to align with the untested protection of either Russia or China. The US isn’t totally down and out - even if that’s what Obama’s intentionally or unintentionally working toward... they know that.

Yes, you are correct, I would rather fix our economy now, but not with our current leaders. They are fools so we will have to wait until after the 2014 elections.

I'm not making any predictions until after the primaries. The Republicans have the opportunity to make substantial gains, but that depends on the success of Tea Party candidates.

The only energy coming from GOP-e candidates is self preservation, not moving the country forward.

Imo this was all staged...happened TOO quickly and a means to get Obama and Kerry out of the “Hot box” they put themselves and this country in. Gave Putin a place on the World Stage as a Diplomat and Acting Arbitrator in a serious conflict.

Diplomacy doesn't move like this......they all take their time going through various channels to arrive at a conclusions beforehand. But these manuvers saved the day for: .....

....Obama is off the hook and spin makes him appear as orchestrating the deal by pressure for war.

....Putin breaks the Log Jam...International Recognition. ....Kerry gets credit for the gaph.

....Hillary gets front stage.

....Democrat Party 'appears' to be on top of the game to their base.

....Assad remains as President.

....Saudi/ Qatar/ Iran and all Muslims etc. left to fight their own battles.

Problem....... Fallout from the Jihadists and Muslim Brotherhood....we know they will retaliate and 'create' another event to keep the International Community engaged...and come to the rescue Again....more deaths..more gas...more torture and insatiable lust for blood and power. This is not over by any means......
