Sorry, I'm not that familiar with JJ Walker. But it's definitely a retro '70s Afro hairdo. Despite the term "Afro," even some kids who weren't black wore them back then, like TV's Juan Epstein (the "Puerto Rican Jew") on the famous sitcom, "Welcome Back, Kotter."
Earth Wind and Fire called, they want their old hairpieces back ;)
