Popularity Increasing Amongst Teens for Electronic Cigarettes
WKRB13 ^ | 09/07/2013

Over the past two years, the use of electronic cigarettes amongst middle school and high school students has doubled. Health authorities are worried that the young people using them will end up being hooked on the regular and more dangerous regular cigarette.

One out of every 10 high school students in the U.S. used an e-cigarette during 2012 as did close to 3% of the students in middle school, showed data from a new report. That rate is nearly double the rate in 2011 for e-cigarettes and equals 1.78 million children or teens who have tried the devices.

The spike in use has experts in public health worried. These e-cigarettes contain a chemical nicotine that is addictive and traces of compounds that are cancer causing called nitrosamines.

The safety of these devices is still not completely known, according to new warnings the Food and Drug Administration has released.

E-cigarettes are available with cartridges giving them tasty flavors such as chocolate or mint. Health advocates worry the devices have a potential to turn many teens into smokers of regular cigarettes.

An electronic cigarette (or e-cigarette), personal vaporizer (PV), or electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) is an electronic inhaler meant to simulate and substitute for tobacco smoking. It generally utilizes a heating element that vaporizes a liquid solution. Some release nicotine, while some merely release flavored vapor. They are often designed to mimic traditional smoking implements, such as cigarettes or cigars, in their use and/or appearance.

And here we go. The money supply is threatened for state governments, the pharmaceutical industry, and the “public interest groups” such as the American Lung Association. These leeches, and their useful idiots, are going to fight this tooth and nail. Never mind that it would save countless lives, and be (gasp!) enjoyable. The money train must not be impeded.

It contains antifreeze! And a substance more addictive than a cross between heroin and crystal meth! Won’t someone think of the children??? (*Sadly, some won’t even recognize the sarcasm)

I’ve tried them. When I lit one with my USAF Zippo the damn cigarette melted then exploded. My eye brows are growing back slowly. These things are dangerous.

It should be noted that the cartridges come in all flavors, and in varying doses of nicotine... or no nicotine. Some folks have gone off the nicotine completely and just "vape" for the enjoyment of the different flavors which are available (coffee, chocolate, etc.).

However, the rabid anti-smokers don't yet understand that these things (with or without nicotine in the flavors) are much safer for all involved (the user and bystanders). If it looks like a cigarette, or has "cigarette" in the name then they will go bonkers over the whole concept.

Huh. Brings a whole new angle to the workplace ‘smoke break’.

Who wouldn’t want to be able to take one of those paid breaks to have a bit of chocolate?

Your first step is to contact your state attorney general and the consumer protection agency so they can require a "Do not Light with Your Zippo" label on these dangerous explosive devices (by the way, maybe the BATF too - that covers both explosive and tobacco), and your second step is to find the nearest class action ambulance chaser to get you some big bucks for your missing eyebrows.

Great idea. If I understood you correctly, don’t use a Zippo, use a BIC disposable lighter instead?

Sure! BICS ought to work fine.

I've never heard of one blowing up when someone lights it with a BIC before.

It contains antifreeze!

No, anti-freeze is ethylene glycol. These contain PROPYLENE glycol. It is used in many foods. Here's a list I found online:

- Most cake/cupcake mixes

- Most cake/cupcake mixes

- Some frostings

- Lots of ice cream brands - Cold Stone Creamery and Graeter's Ice Cream both contain this, plus supermarket brands

- Many McDonald's sauces - including Big Mac sauce and their mayonnaise

- Some flavoring syrups

- Most beers use it as a foaming agent

- Cornbread and muffin mixes

- Coffee (specifically Folgers -- probably others)

- Candy

- Fast Food

- Many salad dressings

- Biscuits in the can that you bake at home

- Flavored coffee's of any brand use PG as a solvent/emulsifier to get the "flavoring" into the bean

Some people are allergic to propylene glycol but it does not cause fairly rapid fatal kidney damage.

Why would you light it? It's dangerous to stand in a puddle of gasoline while smoking, too.
