A U.S. committee that reviews mergers between American companies and those overseas has given clearance to the proposed sale of Smithfield Foods Inc. to a Chinese company.
Smithfield said Friday that the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States gave clearance for the pork producer to be acquired by Shuanghui International Holdings Limited.
The committee reviews overseas transactions for national security implications.

Given the recent history of Chinese run companies and food products, I think I will never buy Smithfield anything ever again.
Ditto
Paula Deen’s gotta be loving this ;)
They will produce pork (here) for their people in china.
They will leave the waste and poluted water (here) for our people.
Another step in the colonization of the USA.
Didn’t they also just approve something with chickens? The chickens will be killed in the US and shipped to china for processing.
Not sure I understand the economics with these moves.
And Smithfield VA is not far from either Norfolk, VA or Little Creek, VA the later is the East Coast Navy SEAL base.It is west of Newport News (Shipbuilding and Drydock Co where carriers and subs refuel plus get work done) after one crosses the James River bridge. The Hampton Roads AO is also Ft Eustis, Langley AFB, and Langley as in CIA. Great AO for Chinese spies.
All the local NC BBQ joints using Smithfield pork will now need to be re-branded as Chinese BBQ.
Hahahaha!
Like GM and Chrysler, I will never buy another Smithfield product again. It’s bad enough I have to use crappy drywall screws and paint brushes but a food product? Never. Now I have to find out what other American food companies China owns
Ha! The joke is on the Chinese. In a few years, pigs and eating pork will be forbidden in the US under Sharia Law. They will lose all of their money on this investment.
This’ll get you started:
The links contained lists, vid clips etc which are truly scary in what we import and eat, mostly unknowingly.
If this goes thru look for Pork prices to double.
Don’t tell their buddy Assad that they just bought a pork company.
