Apparently taxes do have consequences after all.
CNNMoney reports that the number of Americans choosing to give up their citizenship has spiked dramatically this year as the government works to implement a new disclosure law aimed at stamping out tax evasion.
Some of the rush may be caused by Americans hoping to avoid the new disclosure requirements. Others living abroad say they are giving up their U.S. passport because they are tired of dealing with overly complicated tax filings.
Unlike most countries, the United States continues to tax citizens on all income, regardless of where it is earned or where they reside. For expats, filing taxes in two countries often means wrestling with a huge mountain of paperwork.
Death and taxes...
Notice how the numbers went up as soon as 0 took office. They went down just before the 2012 elections, but when 0 was reelected they went up again.
It’s a very big deal to leave the country and live somewhere else. It’s a bigger deal to get citizenship in another country. It’s an even bigger deal to renounce American citizenship. The tax laws are brutal for those who do so.
So, this is a very significant number. There are millions more who would leave, but can’t. 0’s vision of America as a welfare state for dark-skinned people, and a slave labor camp for light-skinned people is driving away the intelligent, innovative, productive and motivated people.
When your country turns on you—it time to BAIL OUT!
You know that it's pretty bad when green card holders start bailing out.
No, it's time to stand up and fight the bastards who turned on you.
I came here(Japan) 15 years ago to study the culture (out of interest)..
Today, I am also considering renouncing my USA citizenship, and I know many here will pound on me for that :/
The thing that is holding me back, besides love for our country, is that I haven’t files a tax return since I’ve been here :p
I have never made over the limit to even be taxed.. as a matter of fact, I am not only below Japan’s poverty line.. I am below USA’s poverty line.. but I am still happy here.
IF a situation happens (not mentioning what I am talking about, but most will know), I will go back and defend my fellow patriots to bring normalcy to the was the USA was supposed to be, or die trying.
As far as I know.. the USA is the ONLY country in the world that taxed its citizens OUTSIDE of the border.. says a lot.
according to IRS you are now a felon. Would definitely have someone look into it for you. You have to file returns even if they say 0.
