The Democrat-dominated Oregon legislature went after mining rights this past session. We tried to stop them, and succeeded in getting a watered-down bill. But mining will be halted after 2014 for five years while they ‘study’ the enviro-impact of mining, even when we already know there’s no big impact on our streams. B*st*rds!

Instead of being concerned about whether the streams are made worse or better (there could be some operations made to improve them to offset any known harm from mining) they are treated as if they were holy and sacrosanct.

Ah, that would explain the "evil mining company" plot lines I have been seeing in books lately.

The mining is usually incidental to the main plot but it is shoehorned in there.

No mining is the new cause celib apparently.

Once the mining stops...it’s finished.

The bar required for mining to resume after 5 years will be set to the impossible standard of having to prove that it’s 100% safe.

To me this is a clear cut violation of the takings clause.
