Unfortunately, it's mostly an accurate generalization. Virtually every visible, politically active black in America jumped aboard the "justice for Trayvon" bandwagon, and consider the young thug to be a martyr in their struggle against "the man."
Things like that happen when a case becomes a high-profile, polarizing cause celebre. I'd note: 1) African-Americans who didn't express an opinion (or who expressed a different opinion) weren't noticed, and 2) expressions of regret for someone who died young or concern about possible miscarriages of justice aren't necesarily the same thing as glorifying a "thug."
Think of Randy Weaver or Waco. You could feel an injustice had been done or a mistake had been made without necessarily supporting (or being aware) of everything Weaver or Koresh or the Davidians had done, or glorifying them.
The difference is that I wouldn't automatically support them just for being white. Blackss hopped aboard the "justice for Trayvon" bandwagon and voiced their solidarity for O.J. Simpson because Travyon and OJ were black. If either were white the black activists would have no sympathy for them. Nor would any whites of sound mind have much sympathy for white perpetrators who acted in the same way as Trayvon and OJ.
It isn't the article that's disappointing. What's disappointing is the fact that we live in a society where most if not all of its observations are true. Would you care to argue otherwise, or do you just dismiss it out of hand because it makes politically incorrect observations?
Perhaps you should stop throwing your pearls before swine, and take your ministry to helping elderly people who have worked their whole lives?

How so? If you quit volunteering for the group that serves "inner city" clientele, and instead volunteer at a nursing home whose residents are predominantly "non welfare", on what grounds could anybody sue you?
Or if you stop volunteering for an organization and decide to help out individuals of your choice? There's something I'm not understanding here.

No, you misunderstood me. We, as a social ministry cannot “discriminate” between those who truly deserve our help and downright social parasites — you help one you also have to help the other kind. (Who are we to judge?)
One of our clients drove up in a British Racing green Jaguar. She said she won the car in a raffle. We had to give her the same amount of food as anyone else. If you don’t do it, you may get sued.
My contributions to “social causes” ended for good with the 2012 election. Many will disagree but oh well. For years we gave to food banks, Christmas collections, church shelters, lots of “drives” put on by different organizations, and not in insignificant amounts. I’m sorry, but I’ve had it. People think the government can save ‘em, fine, go and reap the rewards of your choice. Antecdotes like yours support what I’ve felt it my gut for years — most of us are being played for fools. We’ll be “contributing” only thru our taxes from now on. We add to the collection plate and have one charity we still support; that’s it. The rest we’ll devote to our OWN kids.
Is it because you get donations as a tax-exempt entity? I still don't really understand.
For me, my charity work consists of helping out old friends when they encounter misfortune. I do it as an individual, not as part of any organization, and I choose who to help and who not to. I would not be part of any organization which told me my volunteer efforts had to be expended to the benefit of people I felt were freeloaders.
I noticed a long time ago, that the people who tended to dislike inner-city blacks the most (the white working class) were the people with the most actual face-to-face experience with them.
