Notes from ABC interview with U.S. Senator Risch, who voted no on Syria resolution:

Senator Risch: “We’re talking about using the might and power of the U.S. military... I don’t view this as a matter of national security... had [Syria President] Assad used chemical weapons against any American ... or allies [names Israel], this would have been a no-brainer for me”

Risch continues: “Chemical weapons do not meet international norm but remember this isn’t first time this happened... [Assad] has been using for 14 months... Saddam Hussein used it on his own people, Kurds, Iranians... U.S. and international community didn’t rise up... that’s not an excuse... it’s a really, really bad thing to do... the question is what should response be and by who”

No, but McCain added an amendment that your kid or grandkid may be sent in to fight the savages so that the Saudis can get what they want.

The White House Dumbasses are making the calculation that Russia and Iran are going to do nothing, and just let it happen, even after what happened with the Russians that caused Obama to backtrack and go to congress.

Anytime anyone asks about military responses, these people say “CLASSIFIED SESSION!!”.

And the media just doesn’t seem to care. can you just imagine this happening under Bush?

Resolution allows boots on ground...

Senate-crafted Syria resolution riddled with loopholes for Obama

Senators on Wednesday tried to write a tight resolution authorizing President Obama to strike Syria under very specific circumstances, but analysts and lawmakers said the language still has plenty of holes the White House could use to expand military action well beyond what Congress appears to intend.

“Wiggle room? Plenty of that,” said Louis Fisher, scholar in residence at the Constitution Project and former long-time expert for the Congressional Research Service on separation of powers issues.

No one has considered that Syria’s Air Defense systems were supplied by Russia, and probably manned by Russians. What will happen when we start killing Russians??

The Senators from AZ usually have their calls go straight to voicemail. Even when I’ve called their district offices. Cowards!

They did, on election day. They stated loud and clear, in fact, they yelled, “We love John McCain!” But I can’t say a damned thing. I voted for Marco Rubio.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Wednesday afternoon to expand a use-of-force resolution by specifying the goal of U.S. military intervention in Syria should be to bolster the Free Syrian Army.

The successful amendment, sponsored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a leading Senate voice on national security matters, and Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), also states the aim of U.S. strikes should be to reduce the ability of Syrian President Bashar Assad to use chemical weapons.

The committee adopted two McCain-Coons amendments by voice vote.

One states that the U.S. strategy toward Syria should aim “to degrade the capabilities of the Assad regime to use weapons of mass destruction while upgrading the lethal and non-lethal military capabilities of vetted elements of Syrian opposition forces.”

The second reiterated that it is U.S. policy that Assad’s departure from power, an end to violence, and a negotiated political settlement are prerequisites for regional peace and security.

The votes pave the way for the committee to pass Wednesday afternoon a resolution authorizing military force against Assad’s government.
