In short, the 2 new executive orders bypass Congress and are essentially meaningless.

They’re not meaningless if you’re in the market for an M1 Garand or want to register a full auto or silencer to an NFA trust.

I could see how the order affecting corporations might be used to restrict mass purchases of Class 3 / fully automated assault weapons to be used in uprisings which is what I’m thinking that order might have been written to address. Just another order written to reinforcehus his forcefield...

This also impacts the 700,000+ M1 Carbines still in South Korea, apart from the lot of M1 Garands and smaller lot of carbines approved for import from SK (allegedly through Century Arms).

I was very lucky 20 years ago when someone at work told me they had an "old rifle" they didn't care about...would I give them $50 for it? It was an M1 Carbine.

I told them it was worth considerably more than that, but they just wanted to get rid of it. I was happy to take it off their hands...!

I will take it off your hands for $60. It will give you a 20% profit.

Not really, you’ll have to adjust for inflation.. 50 bucks bought a hell of a lot more then, than 60 bucks will today ;)

Why does it surprise any one that a man who ignores Art II, would also ignore Amendment 2?

BTW, Mark Levin is wrong here. The Executive Order is just that; an order. The bureaucracy will have by now put out "guidelines" for enforcing it, and until and if a lawsuit begins, and wends its way to the SCOTUS at the cost of many millions on the part of plaintiff and defendant, the Executive Order will be enforced.

Levin needs to choose his words more carefully.

It is not meaningless to anyone who respects the 2A.

Obama is trying to create a presidential power to regulate without congress. This is very serious, and highlights how presidents have done this, especially since T. Roosevelt, and taken massive new and unconstitutional powers in the process.

As such, a conservative president who can control his ego needs to work with a conservative congress to lessen the powers of the presidency.

As an example of how dangerous this precedent can be, let me cite another example. Again, with T. Roosevelt, a “progressive”.

Before him, the “presidential proclamation” was used for minor and unimportant purposes. It was just a nicety. But he turned it into a monster, by proclaiming several national parks.

“Hey, they are the nation’s ‘crown jewels’, so they should be controlled by the federal government instead of their home state.” The first nibbles always sound unimportant or even reasonable.

Except that since that time, almost every president has seized more state lands, using every excuse they could imagine.

“The BLM is responsible for carrying out a variety of programs for the management and conservation, of resources on 258 million surface acres, as well as 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate, These public lands make up about 13 percent of the total land surface of the United States and more than 40 percent of all land managed by the Federal government.

“Most of the public lands are located in the Western United States, including Alaska, and are characterized predominantly by extensive grassland, forest, high mountain, arctic tundra, and desert landscapes. The BLM manages multiple resources and uses, including energy and minerals; timber; forage; recreation; wild horse and burro herds; fish and wildlife habitat; wilderness areas; and archaeological, paleontological, and historical sites.”

Do you think that the founding fathers imagined at all that presidents would gradually take much of the land away from the states and the people?

It is a constitutional abomination.

Once again, it is why conservative candidates for the office of the presidency at least need to be asked, “Will you work with congress to return unconstitutional powers taken by former presidents?”

“Are you strong enough to overcome your bloated ego and give up power; or do you think yourself so wise that *you* unlike former presidents, can control yourself?”

ANY registration relative to the Second Amendment is unconstitutional to me.

Got mine (one of four) purchased thru the DCM program in 1965 for $17.50 + $2.50 shipping sent directly to us from the U.S. Army weapons depot in Anniston, Alabama. The good old days.

yes - thanks to you all for posting!

Is this possible scenario?
these M1 grands ARE used by ROTC programs at high schools to train students how to shoot. In Texas, every Rotc member is loaned one of these to practice with.

This is just one link, from a search

What zero has in mind is castrating the ROTC programs

The rifle featured in that video is an M1 Garand *replica* with a moving bolt. I suppose the replicas could be used to teach sight picture techniques and such, but that's about it. Those "rifles" are intended to mimic the weight and balance of real M1s, but clearly they're intended for drill team use.

Can't have a drill team member sneaking a live round into the chamber, like in Animal House.

Also, it appears that the term "demilitarized" means something different when used in discussing drill rifles. I think the meaning as used in the video is "changed from military weight and balance specs" or something like that. Ordinarily the term refers to firearms which have been cut and rendered inert, which doesn't apply to replica firearms which were never "live".
