Libya Oil Exports at 20 Percent of Pre-War Level

Protests by the security guards who protect Libya's oil industry and infrastructure shutdowns have sent petroleum exports plunging to levels far below those prior to the 2011 war that toppled dictator Moammar Gadhafi, and the country itself risks a domestic fuel shortage, according to a high-ranking government oil official.

Libya is currently exporting between 300,000 and 320,000 barrels daily, a fifth of the 1.6 million barrels it regularly exported before the war, Deputy Oil Minister Omar el-Shakmak told reporters late Tuesday. Exports are down by 50 percent compared to last week.

The drop in exports mostly sent to European countries comes amid an international oil price rise of more than 15 percent over the last three months. Oil was selling for $109 on Wednesday in large part due to regional instability including a possible U.S. strike against Syria and the Libya oil delivery problems.

Besides the protests that have shut down eastern ports and refineries, gunmen in the western el-Riyayna area near the Nafusa Mountain range closed three oil pipelines that typically carry 452,000 barrels a day, most of which is used domestically, el-Shakmak said.

So Libya’s oil exports are way down. Well, the Democrat’s plan is working.

Kerry said this won’t be like Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya. Was that a slip?

So Libya’s oil exports are way down. Well, the Democrat’s plan is working.

The EU was in a panic when oil exports halted from Libya. Italy, France and Germany all got a significant portion of their oil from Libya; I believe it was 50% in Italy. They thought overthrowing Gaddaffi would stabilize things and turn the spigot back on. With a UN mandate in hand our Al Qaeda loving regime was more than happy to help.

Gaddaffi's gone, Libya's weak central government is collapsing and the oil has stopped so what do they do now? Think the French and Italians are ready to reestablish African colonialism?

Think about where we were 5 years ago. We had Iraq won but left in a lurch guaranteeing the slide back into chaos we are seeing now. Afghanistan was always dicey but failure was assured when Obama half stepped the surge and replaced anyone competent in charge over there. Libya was designed to be a disaster and it looks like it is. Involvement in Syria is absolutely insane with the only thing we are sure of is that the rebels we support cheered 9-11.

Saudi Arabia has taken up much of Libya’s oil markets, and has found it very profitable. They have increased production and also raised prices, which would not have been possible before the fall of Gaddafi.

When Saudi Arabia says “Jump”, the US says, “How High?”

They’re going to get us into another war, just like in 1991.

In 1973, the U.S. was the World's Biggest Oil Producer.
In 1973, the U.S. imported only 35% of its oil (44.6% in 2011).
Despite this situation, the 1973 oil crisis in the Middle East ended the post-World War II economic boom and the recession in the U.S. lasted from November 1973 to March 1975. Unemployment rate jumped from 4.9% in 1973 to 8.5% in 1975.

1981-1982 : U.S. oil imports dropped to their lowest level.
In 1981, after the beginning of the Iran–Iraq war, a new recession began and ended in November 1982.
By November 1982, unemployment reached 10.8%, the highest rate since the Depression.
