Syrian government claims it found chemical weapons in rebel tunnels

The Syrian government said it has discovered chemical agents in tunnels in Damascus after the killing of hundreds of Syrians in a suspected chemical weapons attack.

Syrian state television said government soldiers found chemical agents in rebel tunnels in the Damascus suburb of Jobar on Saturday and some of the troops were suffocating.

"Army heroes are entering the tunnels of the terrorists and saw chemical agents," state television quoted a source as saying. "In some cases, soldiers are suffocating while entering Jobar."

"Ambulances came to rescue the people who were suffocating in Jobar," the broadcaster said, adding that an army unit was preparing to storm the suburb where rebels fighting to oust the president, Bashar al-Assad, are based.

China says no side should pre-judge Syria chemical probe

(Reuters) - China said on Friday that no side should rush to pre-judge the results of any probe by U.N. chemical weapons experts in Syria, after Syria's opposition accused government forces of using such weapons in an attack on civilians.....

Assad would be stupid to use chemical weapons close to where the UN observers were staying just a few days after the UN observers arrived.

Getting to the bottom of who used the weapons won’t be easy. With the Brotherhood getting their ass kicked in Egypt, it was time to draw attention somewhere else.

I believe the chemical weapons came from Iraq.
I also believe when your enemies are trying to destroy each other you sit back and let them. Lastly, if we step in, how long before the offended side turns these weapons on US?

“Who you gonna believe?”

Well you could just water board a couple of suspected participants on either side . . . Uh, never mind.

It’s hard to say - could have been either. But it’s interesting that Assad shelled the area a day or 2 after the story broke....trying to cover up evidence & keep the U.N. out?

May 2013 UN points the finger at the rebels.

http://rt.com/news/un-syria-rebels-chemical-weapons-854/

UN human rights investigators have spoken to the victims of Syria’s civil war and gathered medical testimonies which point to the Syrian rebels having used sarin nerve gas, while any allegations of its use by the government remain unsubstantiated.

The United Nations independent commission of inquiry on Syria has concluded that no evidence of the use of sarin by Syria’s government troops has so far been uncovered, said the lead commission member Carla Del Ponte on Sunday.

In an interview to Swiss-Italian television, Del Ponte revealed that the “investigators have been in neighboring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals and, according to their report of last week which I have seen, there are strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated.”

Maybe... But If I had intel that my enemies had chem weapons, I'd shell them to try and hoist them on their own petard.

I have no love for assad,he is a butcher. But how stuipid can he be.I don’t belive he notified the world via the internet hours before a chem attack! That would be stupid.I think it’s hardcore terrosists on the other side that are behind the chem war.

The USA is too gullible to lead the world. The Muslim Brotherhood has no compunctions about killing civilians for photo ops that will get us involved if it will save their butts

That source is Russia & they’re on Assad’s side.

The article does also say:

““The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic wishes to clarify that it has not reached conclusive findings as to the use of chemical weapons in Syria by any parties to the conflict. As a result, the Commission is not in a position to further comment on the allegations at this time,” the statement read.”

Not that the MB couldn’t have done it.

Let's see... your side (Assad) is winning the war so let's do something really beyond the pale, so stupid and unnecessary...to bring possible USA and Europe power into the fray...

Yup, that Assad is one dumb SOB...to use nerve gas on innocent children...

Do I even need a / S

Partly. He’s also fighting Syrians who want him gone -that’s how this all started. The MB saw that as an opportunity and joined in.

The UN suits are contradicting the lead investigator’s findings.

Ben Bernanke, Obama and the Muslim brotherhood want a war and want Assad out of the way. Wars provide great cover and distraction for Obama’s domestic flailings and fail.

I will bet that Putin will insist that Obama back down.

Putin has already made it perfectly clear that he’s sending military aid to Assad & the U.S. should stay out.

I am sure Putin has told our "Dear Leader" in no uncertain terms don't even think about actively getting involved...

Though I am sure the MB (you know.. the ones in the WH) are putting tremendous pressure on Obama to do so ...hence the chemical attack...to try and force his hand...

You left out one important factor: The Muslim Brotherhood is losing this war and that is a sufficient reason for Obama to make a military move against Assad. Everywhere we look, Egypt, Libya, Syria and the good old U.S.A, we see Obama supporting the MB. Tea leaves are unnecessary. Just read the news.
