The military of Patton, McArthur, Eisenhower, Marshall, Bradley and Nimitz would have convicted Manning for treason and taken him out to the firing squad.

What we are seeing with the Manning verdict is the new progressive military led by hand picked politically correct generals taking decisive action. Wait until the Hasan verdict given the prosectors have been forbidden to talk about terrorism.

The way I understand the law, which is just an layman's view, is the government had to prove his intent was to pass info directly to, not indirectly, specific known enemy spies, not broadcast across the bandwaves in public.

Ya , I know, that leaves a BIG LOOPHOLE for future spies to claim "whissleblower" status.

Sucks bigtime...

Ever hear of "George John Dasch and the Nazi Saboteurs"?
Eight Nazis were captured in the US (1942), convicted of sabotage (although they hadn't even had time to do anything), and just weeks later six were executed.
Manning deserved no less and should have received death by hanging - in public.
