I say let them reproduce and give them the jobs we give to illegals, you know picking lettuce and whatnot. And if a few of the children are normal or excel they can pull themselves up by their own merit.

If we had no illegal immigration and no welfare even the so called “dollards” would be able to contribute to society!

“What do you do if an individual is unable to comprehend and effectively assume the responsibilities that come with the exercise of a right?”

The traditional solution is to appoint a legal guardian who can act as a steward to both help that person responsibly exercise their rights and protect those rights from infringement by others.

Since the government has a vested interest in infringing on everyone’s rights, they are not a wise choice to pick for that job.

“That position could apply to other situations.”

It sure can. What about all the people popping out babies who can’t afford to support them and end up on welfare?

By BoT’s logic, the government is within its rights to mandate abortions in those cases.

We will need to ask another question....Do these people want their nuts cut off? We are not the ones to decide...you know the Constitution and such.....

They actually based their law on US state eugenics laws.

So you are okay with adult incest I presume?

To paraphrase Holmes, three generations of tyranny ought to be enough.

How would a steward help in this situation? Raising children is a serious, long-term responsibility. How will they prevent their charge from fathering children, or failing that will they agree to assume the responsibility of raising them? They could easily have more children than one legal guardian could possibly deal with, and there's not much the guardian can do to control that.

NOWHERE in this article does it say a damn thing about the child having learning disabilities. The boy is normal and being raised by his grandmother.

They sterilized him because he couldn’t take care of the kid.

Period.

I’m torn on this issue. If taxpayers are footing the bill for these children then perhaps we should insist on birth control until they are able to afford them. But retarded or not if you are able to financially support a family, have at it.

Sorry, but your rights end where my wallet begins.

Why not work to recapture your own rights rather than endorse the violation of someone else's?

Hmmm. Brilliant response. The government has to approve of adult incest or control all reproduction of all citizens?

Let me be clear. Imo, the government has no right to enforce sterilization, contraception or abortion. Imho, our Constitution does not require the citizens of this country to pay for any of those procedures, nor does it require us to pay to support by way of taxes the resulting children that may occur.

It is my contention that there should be no public schools, no welfare, no NPR, and no other other social programs for which we pay taxes. I also believe that all citizens of this country should pay taxes, and in the same amount.

I wonder if Blood of Tyrants has children, and if those children attend public schools.

We have come such a long way from what our Founding Fathers envisioned, that they would not recognize this country, and I believe that they would be horrified at what it has become.

One thing that some here seem to have forgotten is that those same Founding Fathers believed that our rights come from God, and not from man.

What do you thinks happens when a Down’s child or a child with other issues reaches adulthood and can no longer be carried on his parents’ health care plan? Not all families have the financial resources to cover the cost of health care.

They have to turn to the payer of last resort—Medicaid, your tax dollars. Using your logic should a woman who knows she will be giving birth to a child with a defect (what you call ‘retarded’) abort because sooner or later your tax dollars will be needed.

Holmes concluded his argument by declaring that “Three generations of imbeciles are enough”.

Resulting in the sterilization of a rape victim who, despite limited schooling was a voracious reader, and her daughter who, as it turned out later, was in the top of her class at school.

Nice going there sport!

I have to wonder how he could sleep at night.

As I posted earlier, Thomas Edison’s schoolmaster said he was retarded. Many people who contributed greatly to civilization were considered to be retarded, or something similar.

Not only that but there is little to no evidence that being retarded is hereditary.

However even if it was by what right are we sterilizing people?

And yes I have heard the "My tax dollars" argument. It is so much dog-doo.

Currently American tax dollars are being paid to retired service members, that does not give the tax payers the "right" to tell them how they should live, where they should live or anything else.

If he doesn't like a program then he can fight to end it.
