In a jolt to the Democratic campaign for mayor, a new poll suggests that Bill de Blasio, the most liberal of the leading candidates, has vaulted into first place among likely voters.

With one month to go until the Sept. 10 primary, Mr. de Blasio has now passed Christine C. Quinn, the City Council speaker, who had led in most polls for months, although her lead had already narrowed.

Until a month or so ago, Mr. de Blasio had been mired in fourth place, about 10 points behind Ms. Quinn. He was then overtaken by former Representative Anthony D. Weiner, who momentarily overwhelmed the field after entering the race.

This appears to be the “who is the best Communist” race.

“Weiner, who momentarily overwhelmed the field after entering the race”.

The jokes keep writing themselves.

Hang on... this de Blasio guy is to the LEFT of Anthony “can I show you my” Weiner AND the openly lesbian marxist city council speaker? Yikes! How is that even possible?

There are nine 'rats in this primary race, and each seems to place himself or herself to the left of his/her rivals. I don't think any of them has used the word "moderate" to describe himself or herself on any issue. It's just that they all seem to think that their constituency is extreme left.

De Blasio gets the black and female vote without having to be black or a woman. That right there is cheating. He parades her around every chance he gets.

Liu thinks we should disinvest our pension funds from gun manufacturers. Weiner wants Medicare for everyone in the city. Quinn thinks Bloomberg was too lenient and should have let the Occupy Wall Street scum stay in the park. Thompson has the teachers’ union to please and is trying to play it both ways on Stop Question Frisk.

The reason they are able to say they are the farthest left is that they are all wacko lefties on different issues.

All I had to hear was that he was married to a black former lesbian and the UGH factor made me want to upchuck.

Liu is looking better and better compared to an incompetent former head of the MTA and a billionaire grocer with no political experience. Llota (former head of MTA) has not even put out one single commercial that I’ve heard.

Lhota’s commercials featuring Giuliani were running nonstop on Fox News a few weeks ago. He was not an incompetent head of the MTA. He was stuck with the health-care concessions Lindsay put in place and tried many ways to prevent the fare increases. Lindsay was the incompetent one.

Don’t count Thompson out. Among this crew he comes across as most sane & sober.
