--snip-- Detroit is hardly the first city to think of having ObamaCare subsidize its retirees. Chicago, which is in financial difficulty but not bankruptcy, announced a similar plan even before Detroit. Other cities some not even financially distressed are contemplating doing the same thing.
And why not? ObamaCare imposes no penalties on governments that offload their retirees in contrast to large employers who offload their active employees.

yeah...but they’re throwing a monkey wrench into the plan...too damned soon!
Obama wants to get some dough, cash, moolah, mo money mo money mo money, real dollars so he can dole out more largesse and influence....he don’t need no hangers-on cheap ass voters he’s already got. All that comes later under single payer when you’re in a government hospital coughing up a lung waiting on some political appointee to judge whether you deserve treatment (e.g., be you black, brown, yellow or [ewwww] white).
Yet another reason to resist paying. Let Obama try to collect.
I’m surprised there aren’t more cities elbowing each other out to be first at the Obamacare trough.
If you don’t get there early, you’re not going to get anything. There’s not nearly enough money to cover the onslaught of people who will sign up for free or subsidized insurance. The pot is going to be drained dry very early on.
Democrats will try to go to the well to get more money and I hope that the GOP tells them to pound sand.
The retirees are the ones being screwed. They will have to pay the premiums to the exchanges and for a 60 yo couple that could be $1,200-1,300 per month. This might also be a demographic that the insurance carriers don’t want to see.
So the retirees will get a stipend for the premium AND a subsidy from the exchange? I guess the stipend would be considered income?
