Why would such a typo be of interest?

Spelling would not seem to be much of a challenge for the ethnic group in question.

They are used to complex spellings ... e.g., Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.

MA?

The graphic depicts the distribution of Joneses in the UK. Forgot to caption it, sorry.

Basically, it's a Welsh name. And Welsh are pretty good spellers, their language providing examples.

Unlike New Yawk sign-writers with inflated, double-dip public sector pensions.

Most likely triple- and quadruple-dip, the way public sector employees go on. The Long Island RR is lucky to have correctly spelled signs.

I don't know, but they do it.

If you visit Wales, places like supermarkets will have dual signage. And you will witness locals conversing with the cashiers in Welsh. Astonishingly, the language lives.

“Jon-say” I would imagine.

I wonder if they’ll consider changing the name of the beach before they consider changing the sign.

Had a hospital worker friend tell me a gal delivered her baby and didn’t have a name picked out so the doc just put Female in the first name box. The mother decided she liked the name Fe-Ma-Le and that became the girl’s name.

Well, I think that’s cool.

They all speak perfectly fine UK English.

It's just that some of them also speak fluent Welsh. And it's a point of political pride to preserve the language within the UK.
