Scheidts and Levy had 13 embryos from which to choose. The testing, Levy said, revealed only three of the 13 had the correct chromosomal numbers, and one of those was implanted in Scheidts. Nine months later, a healthy baby boy.
I was overjoyed and a little emotional because we had been trying so long, Levy said.
The test itself is relatively simple: Doctors take a bit of tissue from the embryo, usually five days after fertilization when it is about 100 cells. They remove five cells and test them, making sure that the right number of chromosomes are present. Almost like a very early prenatal test, Wells said.
Before this, he said, doctors could not be certain which embryo had the best chance of survival. That led doctors to transfer two or three at a time, increasing the risk for twins and triplets, and for complications. By looking at the chromosomes and avoiding those that have little chance, doctors can improve the odds of a viable pregnancy.
If youre going to only transfer one, you better be sure it has the best chance of making a baby, Wells said. You dont guarantee a pregnancy, but the chances are higher than without this screening.
Parents cannot select traits such as blond hair or blue eyes. The number of genetic sequences needed to make up any pairing of physical traits are far too great to choose from the small number of fertilized embryos.

If you believe that life begins a conception, then in this case and many other cases using the In-vitro fertilization technique (IVF), you are creating 13 babies to have one grow to full term while the remaining 12 either die, are slough off or are sentenced to life in the gulag in liquid nitrogen!
Brooke Shields had the same procedure
Actress Brooke Shields kills 140 of her very own Children by undergoing 7 IVF Treatments
Now I know why so many conservatives and republicans are in favor of embryonic stem cell research. As a result of the In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure, there are so many throw-away babies left in the embryonic stage, they have to do something with them to reconcile themselves and clear their consciences after they created their Tylers, Dillons, Blakes and Connors..I guess they can live with themselves throwing their children on the dung heap.
One of the things that makes the Greco-Roman world seem so alien is the practice of killing unwanted babies. Some were disposed of by 'exposure' (put out on a dung heap), others by rather more aggressive forms of murder. There were many Roman houses where dead babies lay under the floorboards or buried in the garden.
This procedure is 100% against the Catholic Church, there are many teachings on this subject starting with Humanae Vitae and then Ratzinger's Donum Vitae
This story the day after a story saying that more couples are opting not to have children for economic reasons.
Ping!
Sick. We don’t deserve to survive as a Republic.
If they feel better about their finances later in life, they can have children manufactured ("Now with better quality controls!") if they aren't able to conceive them naturally.
What a gross disrespect for human LIFE!
