The U.S. Army is refusing to suspend contracts with dozens of companies and individuals tied to Al Qaeda and other extremist groups out of concern for their "due process rights," despite repeated pleas from the chief watchdog for Afghanistan reconstruction.

In a scathing passage of his latest report to Congress, Special Inspector General John Sopko said his office has urged the Army to suspend or debar 43 contractors over concerns about ties to the Afghanistan insurgency, "including supporters of the Taliban, the Haqqani network and al Qaeda."

Sopko wrote that the Army "rejected" every single case.

"The Army Suspension and Debarment Office appears to believe that suspension or debarment of these individuals and companies would be a violation of their due process rights if based on classified information or if based on findings by the Department of Commerce," Sopko said, summing up the Army's position.

It remains one big circle jerk. We kill them and then give them money to kill us.

First question by the construction company:

“Sir, where should we build the hidden safe rooms in this compound”

Someone wanna tell these people that the “ due process” clause is in our constitution and applies to US citizens and US sovereign states, not to foreign companies

The usual story, the REMFs don’t care a whit about those in the field or at the front. All they care is the money they get to spend and the relationship between contracts, spending and their advancement in rank. I hate to be a cynic but comments like this about “their rights” smacks me of nothing but a severe lack of concern for the mission which is to rid the world of the enemy by the most efficient use of personnel resources as possible.

This is what happens when you don’t win a war.
You win a war by killing huge numbers of the enemies people and destroying much of their infrastructure. Then you TELL them how it gets rebuilt.

Due to sequestration, we will ONLY be cancelling those contracts which directly benefit American citizens.

These days a lot of the military brass are a big part of the problem. They plan with an eye on their stock portfolios because many of them are politically connected corporate generals.

Look at James Clapper. He runs the NSA but nobody mentions the fact that he was once an executive with the company that hired Edward Snowden.

Yet POTUS has given himself the authority to drone Americans without due process.

It sounds like Sopko is one of Obama's cronies, and fearful of losing his position , income , and retirement.
I understand that the higher you go up the command ladder , the more political accountability you have .

Remember the words that Zippy's zampolit has said :
“After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time.
Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget.
The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve.
There is going to be hell to pay." --Valerie Jarrett

PghBaldy ~:" Yet POTUS has given himself the authority to drone Americans without due process."

Right from the Dept. of Justice :
"There is a distinction between “due process” and “judicial process”,
saying they “are not one and the same” in terms of national security.
“The Constitution guarantees due process, not judicial process,” ~ Eric Holder 03/05/12

This is not the Army I served in nor is this any longer the country I served for. I simply can’t fathom what has happened in such a few short years. I guess that means I’m part of the problem.
