SAN FRANCISCO U.S. aviation officials are no longer allowing foreign airlines to land alongside another plane when touching down at San Francisco International Airport in the wake of the deadly Asiana Airlines crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement Tuesday it implemented the change to minimize distractions during a critical phase of flight.
In the past, two planes could approach SFOs main parallel runways at the same time in clear weather. Domestic carriers can still do that, but air traffic controllers are now staggering the arrivals of foreign carriers.

Why does this not surprise me?
“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Captain Ho Ding Patten, we expect clearing to land sometime within the next hour or two...”
That’s profiling!
You bet it is. I say, “Thank the Lord! It’s about time.”
I had to read that twice...now I am laughing!
Don’t know where you posted that graphic from but I’ve sent it to a bunch of aviation guys that love it.
Was sent to me by an ExpressJet pilot.
LOL. Outstanding.
Or 1 unqualified pilot bowling in the wrong alley.
Are you able to send it (email) as an animated gif? How?
(I’ve tried various ways, but the animation does not get thru via outlook)
I am sure that is true, but the way you put it, is the politically incorrect way of saying it. As a former air traffic controller, I can say, what a hassle.
I guess old Sum Ting Wong and Wi Tu Lo will just have to learn how to land airplanes without using the autopilot.
Hmmm... could this have something to do with certain types of foreigners being peripheral-vision challenged? Ever seen some of our Eastern friends in the Bay Area try to use the on ramp to a freeway? Just sayin’.
New info may indicate dead young lady was seen before accident with fire vehicle. Command didnot receive info.
I drag the file to the desktop from the FR page, open Entourage and attach the file to the email. At the other end, the recipient has to save the file to their machine and open it in a browser (”File / Open File...” in Safari).
Works perfectly on my Mac.
We call it “DWA” around Silicon Valley. This past weekend, a DWA-F pulled into the bike lane ahead of me and proceeded to drive in it for a hundred yards at 10 mph. Being extremely wary, I dropped back a bit. Good thing I did because she cut a U-turn right in front of me without looking at all. A very common occurrence here in Silicon Valley. No peripheral vision and, even worse, no head-turns.
Co-pilot Hu Flung Dung feels snubbed and thinks this stinks.
1st time i landed 9 right at Palm Beach International a large passenger jet carrying a couple hundred souls was coming in on 9 left about 6000 feet longer than my strip
But as they say,pooh happens.
