WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A secretive U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration unit is funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, informants and a massive database of telephone records to authorities across the nation to help them launch criminal investigations of Americans.
Although these cases rarely involve national security issues, documents reviewed by Reuters show that law enforcement agents have been directed to conceal how such investigations truly begin - not only from defense lawyers but also sometimes from prosecutors and judges.

No other tyranny has ever performed such,
or so quickly.
Ok, I’m asking myself, is this a case of the tail wagging the dog or the dog wagging the tail?
Is the feds aim here - methodology aside for the moment - in using data collection & dissemination truly being done to enhance drug enforcement? Drugs we have had with us forever and we always will have them. OR, since this IS a Justice Dept. agency and that place is thoroughly corrupt, could the DEA’s use of this data on Americans actually provide conventient COVER for going after Americans for other reasons, such as politicalaa?
And why is Reuters suddenly climbing on board this kind of investigation?

Once the database exist, it will be used.
IRS and every other agency will have full access to every private detail of your life. It is in full throttle now.
Good post, Thanks.
The U.S.? They must mean Obama...does Chris Matthews still have the tingles?
To me, this has the potential to upturn the criminal “justice” system, if this article is true.

Thanks, I was about to look it up.
So...what is it you call a government who uses it’s own resources against it’s own people and yet claims we live in the “land of the free”? Even Stalin used to proclaim the Red Army was fighting for freedom...LOL!
The goal, I believe, is to “disappear” political dissidents. We very rarely hear about missing persons on the news. They’re often localized events. Ever read “The Count of Monte Cristo?” The French had something during the revolution called an “oubliette.” Oublier, in French, means “to forget.” And oubliette is a place where people are taken to be forgotten.
The government has been documented as building secret facilities around the country. What if those facilities are actually secret prisons? A political dissident is found to be buying drugs from a local street thug. That dissident gets a knock at the door late one night or is met outside of his/her business by some men in suits; “Come with us Mr./Mrs. X.” A bag is put over his/her head and they are carted off to one of these prisons. Family reports them as missing, it never goes any further. That person is officially disappeared.
The problem with all of this, aside from the blatant and outright illegality, is that these processes will never be used to catch the “bad guys.” Drug deals, thugs, actual violent criminals will continue to walk the streets unmolested while political opponents, people like you and me who are seen as threats to this regime, will be locked up with no trial for crimes that don’t exist. We’ll be political prisoners.
Pray for our nation. I believe this government only knows and responds to one thing: power. If you don’t have it, you’re a pawn. We are literally living at the whim and say-so of our government. America, as we knew it, is dead.
- A complicit MSM morphed into the Ministry of Propaganda.
- Government ministries sworn to serve and protect the American
people, now actually turned against them, and wielded like a bludgeon
against political rivals.
- Government ministers under oath repeatedly caught out lying to Congress, without consequence.
- Congress exempting itself from the laws they force everyone else to live under.
- The militarization of law enforcement.
- The relentless shredding of the U.S. Constitution.
- The near frenzied efforts to disarm the American people, at every opportunity.
- All coupled with the rise of secretive, technologically advanced systems amassing
a database so vast as to know every time you've flushed a toilet, or flipped a light
switch, and monitors every word of every telephone call and email...
And, we're told to continue grazing. Keep calm and carry on. Nothing to see here. The system would never be misused. No. Never. Swear ta' gawd...
I can’t believe the judge who said she’d never heard of this. I’ve known about it for at least 30 years and I was never a lawyer or a cop.
Of course they know about it. They rationalize because its occasionally used to catch really bad guys that its ok.
This is why we are supposed to have protections from our govt and controls on their power. They’ve successfully bypassed all of those controls now.
Tell us again how marvelous the Patriot Act is.(not you driftdiver)
A lot of us knew this would be where it led. At first, it’s all ‘for your protection’ and now it’s led to illegal and unconstitutional fishing expeditions that invade our privacy.
The big eye ball of Big Brother, it’s everywhere.
How will we ever know if its true. There have been so many lies and misdirections that we’ll never know.
I do not doubt that its true.
See this?
We have one sitting in prison right now, in plain sight. The muslim video guy is still there as far as I know.
Sorry for the thread diversion, but that photo of the scared girl on the roller coaster brought to mind something which happened 2 years ago.
I was seated in a coaster with my daughter and a ~~10 year old boy was alone behind us. At the very top of the lift hill he became so scared he tried to climb out of the car.
I reached back to hold him down and continued to hold him for the entire ride.
The events of the last few months made me feel glad I was not arrested for profiling him and holding him against his will. He might have had some skittles.
