FANCY FARM For the first time, Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell shared the stage with challengers who want his job and stuck around long enough at Saturdays Fancy Farm picnic to hear one of them speak.
Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes and later Democrat Ed Marksberry and McConnells Republican primary challenger Matt Bevin slammed McConnell for being in Washington too long and not doing enough to help Kentuckians, fix what ails Washington or both.
McConnell, for his part, ignored Bevin completely, both in the senators speech and by leaving before Bevin addressed the crowd, which organizers estimated was about 12,000. Thats one of five most well-attended political speaking events in the 133 years of the event.
Instead, McConnell looked ahead to the general election and continued to frame it as a national race.
Heres the choice: Obamas Nevada yes-man or a Kentuckian to run the Senate, McConnell said, referring to Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid.

Buh-bye Mitch. Your Lobby Job awaits you. And so does your new digs in Central America. Thanks for screwing conservatives AND America.
I received a very ugly campaign mailing from McConnell today. It was entirely a sleazy hit job on Bevin. Made me detest McConnell even more than I already do. Not a chance I am voting for him. If that means a we get a Dim, then so be it. It’s on the GOP’s head.
McConnell has nothing to run on.
Did anyone listen to Grime’s speech? She is for increasing the minimum wage, “Paycheck Equality”, etc. Sounds as if her idea of stopping “Grid lock” is to vote for Democrat policies.
I really hope that if McConnell does win, Senate Republicans will come to their senses and not follow the House in reelecting the same failed leadership again and again and again.

I thought McCain ran the senate/s
I think you are moving the way of many conservatives.
Perhaps like you, I have had it with supporting the sham, the fraud in DC that passes for republican, constitutional government.
Every two years, we are expected to legitimize an illegitimate government.
For me, the turning point was the revelation that by March of 2012, congressional pubbies knew of the IRS abuse of Tea Party groups.
With that info alone, the GOP could have blown the Obama campaign clear out of the water. It made me realize they fear us more than they care about the galloping Obama tyranny.
What do you mean it was a "revelation"? If you are alleging they did not make the information public about the allegations being made against the IRS by the Tea Party groups, that is not true. After the groups started complaining about the treatment they were receiving, it was trumpeted it for anyone who would pay attention and held a hearing in which the IRS commissioner denied all allegations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV-0WcPGml0
The media then proceeded to mostly ignore the story, other than a few stories on Fox News.
That would more depend on who else gets elected who would be elected as the leader, or how McConnell would behave given the makeup of his caucus. If it is more McCains and Grahams...it doesn’t matter who the leader is. Much of the caucus now seems to act as though McConnell is too hard line.
I’m hoping Graham can be defeated in SC.
