The United States will temporarily shut down its embassies and consulates around the world Sunday -- including those in Iraq, Afghanistan and Egypt -- as a precautionary measure over terror-related concerns, State Department officials said.

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf did not say how long the international installations would stay closed -- only that the decision was taken “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting.” Officials would not describe the nature of the threat.

Perhaps it's the "abundance of caution" thing, released at the same time the Benghazi coverup story is breaking large. Headlines for closing embassies are at the top of online news outlets, the coverup story is sinking quickly into the background.

If we have a CIA whose ability is limited to simply TAKING IN information that an al-Qaeda attack is imminent but is NOT able to pinpoint where such an attack will take place, which seems to be the case now, we’re doomed.

Suppose al-Qaeda phoned New York’s City Hall and announced it would soon be blowing up the city’s subway system? If New York’s detectives couldn’t pin down a general location for the attacks, the city would have to shut down its entire subway system, and bring New York to its knees.

Will the U.S. be able to keep its embassies open, will U.S. citizens be able to travel abroad if our intelligence capabilities aren’t equal to the task?

Somehow, tiny, beleaguered Israel has been able, year in and year out, to avoid having its embassies blown up by its myriad enemies, but apparently the U.S. under Obama can’t.
