House Republicans on Friday accused Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew of obstructing their investigation into the IRS’s targeting of tea party and conservative groups, and issued subpoenas for more agency documents. Oversight committee chairman Darrell Issa sent a scathing latter to Lew blasting him and Obama for dismissing the GOP’s claims about IRS targeting as a phony scandal, saying that Lew has attempted to thwart his investigation. (Snip) The IRS came under scrutiny when its auditor reported earlier this year that the agency had singled out groups with “tea party,” “patriot” or “9/12” in their names for special scrutiny when the groups applied for tax-exempt status. The IRS has acknowledged it asked inappropriate and intrusive questions of the conservative groups.

I don't see a link to Issa's letter, but I hope he didn't use the words "phony scandal" in it. He's already walking back with this:

OR WHAT? Empty threat. Issa may be building a case, but he concedes ground every time facts prove he has the high ground---thus encouraging more obstruction of justice from the IRS.

Being a life long citizen of the U.S. for over 75 years, I can assure you I am NOT amused by the tacticts of the IRS nor in particular Jacob Lew.

I didn’t say that, and I don’t believe that. I agree with your sentiments-—nothing amusing about IRS tactics, nor do I believe that the hearings are only for “show” or “citizens’ entertainment.”
