Pope Says He Won't Judge Gay Priests

Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip...

"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.

Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.

He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

...can someone find out what the Pope REALLY meant?

I know what he SAID. Is THAT sufficient?

"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

He does NOT have to 'judge' at all; but he SURELY could REPEAT what the LORD has said!!!

I will be charitable and say he is saying that persons with a homosexual tendency, as with a heterosexual tendency, are both tempted and must fight that temptation outside of God-sanctioned marriage. Additionally, we cannot determine who will be in Heaven, specifically.

However, society expects controls around men being in charge of girls to protect the girls. This is usually another person to vouch for ever-present proper behavior.

For anyone in a homosexual or heterosexual relationship outside of marriage—this cannot be condoned. Also, those in such positions should not be in positions of authority in Church.

I do hope this is clarified. As a Protestant who has given Catholic positions more than a little harassment, I would dread a “coming out” by the whole Catholic faith. Practicing Protestants and Catholics alike want leadership to hold to Godly standards.

It does save time to know what the Church says about hosexuality

It 'helps' even MORE to see what SCRIPTURE says about it!!!

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Doonesbury Cartoon for Feb/08/2013

Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...

With the overwhelming number of sexual degenrates infecting the media, are we surprised that they twist the Pope’s words, making it appear he’s supporting the degenerate agenda world-wide? Satan is a liar from the start. His minions lie as easily as they breathe.

It is not for us to judge.

Judge NOT???

Sigh............

Jesus has commanded us to judge!

“Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?... And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?... Do you not know that we shall judge angels?... How much more, things that pertain to this life?.. If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge ? (1 Corinthians 6:1-5).

Many commands of God require the exercise of righteous judgment.

“But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us” (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

“And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother” (2 Thessalonians 3:14,15).

“Teach and exhort these things. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself” (2 Timothy 6:2b-5).

“Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple” (Romans 16:17,18).

All these commands require the careful exercise of righteousness judgment. Do not be deceived by smooth words and flattering speech. Beware of wolves who come to you with a sheep’s skin.

We must be careful not to make unqualified judgments. But we must judge appropriately when commanded to do so.

“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.  (John 7:24).

“homosexual orientation is not sinful”

I understand that having desires, but not acting on them is one thing, but the Bible CLEARLY condemns the effeminate.

That’s a blurry line.

“I’m not Catholic, but I think it would be good advice for the Pope to quit using the Alinsky term ‘gay’...they should be referred to as homosexuals or sodomites. Not gay”.

Well I am Catholic and that makes me mad too. Nothing at all “gay” about this perverted, miserable creeps, who usually suffer from all sorts of depression because they know what they are doing is wrong. That’s why the vast majority of sodomites are non-believers. They have turned their back on God.

That the Pope would actually use the word “gay” is troublesome.

You have essentially spoken correctly. Unfortunately, those who remain ignorant of the Churches teachings, some quite intentionally, will use his words against him and the church.

I just HATE when that happens!

Matthew 12:36

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

I’m finding myself torn in conscience with what the Pope comments. I am not of the Catholic world and this probably contributes to my quandary. I believe that God by Jesus Christ recognized/acknowledged that there is righteousness and evil. I also believe that in the judgement of God one cannot ‘sugarcoat’ evil as if such can be part of ones personal character. With this said I think the Pope is certainly a peoples need.

My take on this matter. I believe that Francis has led a cloistered and prayerful lifestyle that makes him naive of the extent that evil will go to twist and turn his words for the sake of an evil agenda.

I believe this naiveté may be more dangerous than his supposed acceptance of homosexual priests. It is impossible to engage in spiritual warfare if you do not understand the tools of the enemy. Benedict for his part, despite his age seemed to understand this.

Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice or a tendency only is so much as we all have a tendency toward rebellion and a desire to engage in evil and profane acts. Because homosexuality is a physical and spiritual orgasm in the perverse merely for the sake of being perverse.

It sounds like one remark from a long interview taken out of context and juxtaposed against a previous statement that homosexuals should not be priests that the Pope had not refuted.

I'm just SURE the Official Record of the Pope has the EXACT transcript of the ENTIRE conversation.

It will soon be posted and analyzed.
