I’ve stayed off this topic for far too long, but I think now is the time.
I love FR. Its 100 times better than Fox or any other “news” outlet out there.
But, Fox is free, so are many of my other favorite sites.
I’m really irritated that the leadership of this forum hasn’t adopted SOME of the ad-serving technology out there that can help pay the bills.
Free is great if you have charity giving you money, but at some point, you need to grow.
There is technology called “Adsense” by Google (yea I know, the “evil giant” of the web). The fact is, when you sign on with Adsense, Google serves ads based on the information on the page. Every ad that gets clicked, FR would get 40% of the ad revenue (approximately) of each Cost Per Click.
With the volume of FR, this would likely take care of all of the money needs of FR on a weekly basis.
There are other ways to get money as well, such as content locking which requires people to occasionally fill out offers, surveys etc. Advertising is how companies stay in business, when you’re on Rush, advertisers pay the bills, same with Glenn Beck, Fox, etc.
I’m not saying FR should adopt the methods of these other media behemoths, but just putting my thoughts to words in frustration of seeing the “Beg-a-thon” we call fundraising.
Is there a better way?
Do I know exactly what FR business model is or why its avoided following the path of more successful forums? No. I just hope that we’ll consider some options that will help FR stay going. I for one can’t afford to give money to all my favorite causes...

Also, many Freepers are probably not aware what advertising actually means.
When you go to a site that advertises, you often get socialist propaganda in the adertising package. That’s out of the site’s control. Sometimes the ad package pushes a pure soviet style State message, like if the Freeper happens to be in Europe where the sovietisation is more in-your-face.
Ad-freedom means freedom.
Well, ya can’t argue with that conclusion. /duck /hide
Would you like to promote the “Weiner Wager”? Another FReeper and I have pledged $100 to FR if Anthony Weiner is NOT the next mayor of NY: if he pulls out before the primary, if he loses the primary, or if he loses the general. Maybe others would like to put their money on the election, one way or the other. There are certainly plenty of Weiner threads to attract attention!

With the shoddy treatment of DoD civilians by large numbers of FReepers that are supposedly pro-military, I’m sitting out Freepathons for awhile and coming around this website a lot less. People here say they’re pro-military then kick them straight in the teeth. Great people. I’m really re-examining my associations here.
