Puppies and 95 year old nursing home residents. I guess many modern cops know nothing of the concepts of judgement and proportionate force.
Well, the important thing is that all the jack-booted thugs made it home safely.
It sounds like the police used one of those “stand your ground” laws.
This 95 year old might have been a World War II veteran who fought the Nazi’s.
It must have been frightening to come up against someone so formidable.
Thank God nobody had their therapy dog there.
Was he brandishing his walker or IV racks?
Hooked up to explosive oxygen?
Years ago police shot a man in my neighborhood who was holding a BBQ fork. He didn’t speak English so he could not understand their orders, and they apparently felt he was threatening them with deadly force. So they shot him through the chest right in front of his family.
There was a story where they shot a deaf man who couldn’t hear their orders.
This is not something I like to hear and it seems I’m hearing about it just about every day now. I know this is a very different circumstance, but just like the 93 year old woman in Omaha, I feel sorry that these two people made it to such an age, but went out in a bad fashion.
We either submit to the tyranny or see that it stops.
The article says it was a butcher knife. If he was a healthy 95, they may have felt the need to use some force. I don’t know how tasers are set up in terms of adjustable power levels, or how hard those bean bags can hit, but it was obviously in hindsight too much for him. I see this more as a bad judgment call than an abuse of power. Use too little force, and someone gets cut, use too much force and the old guy can’t handle the physical trauma. I’d need more facts before I knew what to think about this.

Unlikely that will ever happen.
Something called ‘pepper spray’—new fangled chemical that works against dogs, bears, humans—or so I’m told.
I find this very disturbing. Anyone who has been given the authority to use such weapons on the citizenry should know better than to use them on a 95 year old man.
If he was a cuddly black bear, they’d have hit him with a tranquilizer dart.
Nobody anywhere has ever thought of this?
