After four days in detention, the Dream 9 are still waiting to find out their future. But immigrant advocacy groups are stepping up the pressure.
The National Immigrant Youth Alliance has collected signatures from 22 members of Congress in a letter urging President Obama to grant the Dreamers humanitarian parole and bring them home. The letter campaign will continue throughout the weekend with an announcement on Monday of the legislators who support bringing the Dream 9 home.
Congressman Luis Gutierrez has already expressed his support of the Bring Them Home campaign on his Facebook page.
My staff met with Maria Martinez, the mother of Lulu Martinez, this morning. Lulu is one of the #DREAM9 detained at the border as they attempted to return to the United States, he wrote. I appreciate Mrs. Martinez sticking around my Chicago office as she waits for a copy of the letter I am sending to President Barack Obama in support of her daughter and the #DREAM9. I and my staff are working to #BringThemHome.
In the meantime, the Dreamers are engaged in a hunger strike to demand more flexible phone privileges and raise awareness for their plight behind bars.
The actual facility is preventing them from making phone calls, said Mohammad Abdollahi, an organizer with the National Immigrant Youth Alliance (NIYA).

To President Obama & Peter Vincent, Office of General Counsel:
I write to ask for the immediate release of the Dream 8; Claudia Amaro, Adriana Gil Diaz, Luis Leon, Maria Peniche, Ceferino Santiago, Lulu Martinez, Marco Saavedra and Lizbeth Mateo. All 8 are seeking your permission to be allowed to return home to their families and communities.
I believe all of the DREAM 8 deserve a second shot at the American Dream, after all America IS the land of second opportunities. These kids did not leave the United States because they wanted to, they were all forced to leave their homes because of either deportation or policies that made living in America impossible.
Adriana left 3-months before DACA was announced because she was tired of worrying, each night, whether her mom would come home to her or end up in one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's jails. Luis Leon left North Carolina in 2011 because he was banned from attending the community college system. Maria Peniche, of Revere, Massachusetts, left with her younger brother and parents just 3-days before DACA was announced, they left because Maria too had dreams of one-day attending college. Claudia Amaro came to this country because her father was murdered in Mexico; she lived in Kansas for more than 17-years before being deported with her 5-year old U.S. Citizen son. Ceferino Santiago was forced to leave his family in Lexington, Kentucky because he needed a $21,000 surgery; his life depended on his leaving and now, just like the rest of the DREAM 8, he is ready to come home and re-unite with his community.
These Dreamers, despite having the same dreams as the thousands living in the United States, have no way of qualifying for DACA and other relief because their life circumstances forced them to leave. These Dreamers are now depending on your leadership to create a pathway for them to come home; President Obama, will your Administration open the door for the Dream 8 to come home?
I urge your Administration to immediately grant discretion and parole in the Dream 8.

If congress continues to support the breaking of US laws then soon we will have no need for congress. Eventually, nobody will obey laws and it will be the people in Washington DC who started it. Why pay those huge salaries, support those huge congressional staffs, if we are going to ignore laws? Think of the billions we could save
I have heard it said by others, that the more corrupt a country is, the more laws it has.
If Obama lets them out.I do believe the border will be flooded with others making the same claim..immigration reform..What are they going to do when more cases like this start showing up at the border..?
Why should anyone in the U.S. be concerned with the family problems of foreign nationals? There certainly is no Constitutional basis for doing so.
"JUST HERE GOR A BETTER LIFE" HAS TRANS-MONGRIFIED INTO "GIMMEGIMMEEGIMMEE--OR ELSE" The Fifth Column marches on: the tax-funded "Congressional Hispanic Caucus" on Capitol Hill, "Voto Latino," numerous tax-funded "Hispanic Federations," the tax-funded blood thirsty "La Raza," as well as countless "latino legal rights" groups; Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee(ALIPAC), LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, US Cong Julian Castro San Antonio --his twin--Mayor Julian Castro--their mother Maria Rosie Castro--La Raza activist, El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan, La Mecha, La Raza, Mexifornia, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, National Council of La Raza, Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan ...
All demanding to be educated, housed, clothed, fed, transported, medicated, drugged-up, armed -- w/ your tax dollars.
I say deport them.Every single one of them.Canadians,Brits,Irish,Greeks,Iranians,Indians,Thais,Nigerians,Kenyans,Brazilians...AND MEXICANS! And if they come back after having been deported they get to visit the SuperMax in Florence,Colorado for five years.Yes,we'll have to spend a few billion to expand it...so raise my taxes by $50/yr.
Maybe it’s making so many laws that causes the corruption.
I’m all for sending them home - to Mexico or wherever they came from.
Maybe if they would rape or kill someone Driving while intoxicated they would be free already. As long as they don’t forge a passport four times its all ok. Just plain fraud doesn’t qualify for citizenship.
The Dreamers attempted to cross the U.S.-Mexico Border through a legal port of entry in order to start a movement and send a message on immigration and the need for reform. They have been detained in Nogales by U.S Customs and Border Protection officials since Monday evening. Abdollahi said those in DREAM 9 did have a plan in case they were detained.
If they were sent to a detention center, they would gather stories despite tight limitations, he said. So far, DREAM 9 have interviewed 7 other detainees who have no committed a crime like theft or larceny that could warrant detention.
Yes they have, they have invaded this country illegally.
But for a good cause, to lobby USA congress to pass amnesty, Don't we need more American political activists?
no. no we do not.

'Its like a job fair in here': Mexican cartels tap prisons to get criminal talent ....
Daily Mail ^ | 9 June 2013 / FR Posted by Fractal Trader
Resourceful Mexican drug cartels are recruiting convicts in US prisons to work for them as drug runners, assassins and enforcers when they are released.
One prisoner who is nearing the end of a 10-year sentence said he was approached by Mexican drug gangs who wanted to give him 20kilograms of cocaine to sell when he got out - worth nearly half a million dollars on the street.
The prisoner said the Mexican drug gangs are beginning to see American prisons as a 'job fair' that can supply an endless stream of talent in the United States as prisoners are released back into society.
Inside-out: A federal incitement recently revealed that the federal prison at Forrest City, Arkansas, was being used as a recruitment center for the Gulf Cartel 'The conditions are perfect right now for the cartels,' the prison inmate told the Daily Beast. 'They have a pool of captivated untapped talent and ready-made resources which they can access in our prisons. I'm telling you, its like a job fair in here.'
Last month, the FBI indicted 16 members of the Gulf Cartel for bringing more than 100kilograms of cocaine into northern Arkansas, alleging the Mexican crime syndicate recruited numerous drug runners from the Federal Correctional Complex at Forrest City. The recruits were hired to distribute the cocaine for the cartel after they were released from prison.
