For every illegal-immigrant valedictorian, 'there's 100' minors 'hauling 75 pounds of marijuana

As congressional Republicans and Democrats spar over what to do about the millions of minors thought to be in the U.S. illegally through no fault of their own, attention Tuesday fell on comments Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King made last week in an videotaped interview with a conservative website.

King, who favors decoupling the fate of so-called 'DREAM Act' children from the thornier issue of what to do with their parents who consciously broke immigration laws.

House Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte are reportedly putting the finishing touches on the KIDS Act, which would separate those issues and address only the children's plight.

Of the illegal immigrants who came as children, Goodlatte said that they 'came here through no fault of their own and many of them know no other home than the United States.'

King acknowledged that 'some of them are valedictorians - and their parents brought them in. It wasn't their fault. It's true in some cases.'

'But they aren't all valedictorians,' the congressman told Newsmax. 'They weren't all brought in by their parents.'

'For every one who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds. And they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert.'

'Those people would be legalized with the same act,' he said, if a Democratic bill passed in the U.S. Senate were to become law.

King is an A Hole. That is not how you get Americans to think about immigration. If King was smart he should put it this way. How many college grads have jobs and job offers. If we deport these illegal immigrant college grads, that is more jobs for American and legal immigrant grads. Keep immigration about bread and butter. In a tough economy and high unemployment immigration is a winning issue for the GOP is framed properly. I am a engineering grad with little experience in politics. If I can figure this out, why can’t the seasoned politicians of the GOP??!!!!

It will continue while Mexico has a corrupt government. I always believed that Mexico's problems involved the four p's: police, politicians, poverty and pollution.

Nothing will change there. The strong, rich families there are part and parcel of politics, politics, land and banks. Why would they even consider giving up any part of that.

I lived in Mexico two years (Mexico City) and I learned that the powers that be think it's GREAT that their people get into the states so easily, get welfare and send back BILLIONS from the money earned by illegals....also by the braceros (those who work the seasonal fruit/vegetable harvests).

This takes enormous pressure off the government to get off their fat kulos and make some changes for their people.

There are something over 26,000 high schools in the US. How many do you think had an illegal alien as valedictorian? 100:1 is probably a low estimate.
So, if a Rep. responds to absurd hyperbole about all those poor discriminated against illegal alien valedictorians with a little hyperbole of his own.... look out. Once again the media proves to be the real enemy. If they were honest we would have a far different government right now.
