One of the funny things about electoral politics is that you cant always have the coalition you want, or even the coalition you think youll get. When the Democratic Leadership Council was thinking about how to rebrand the party in the late '80s, most figured theyd win back white southerners, like Jimmy Carter and every prior successful Democrat. But the new Democratic coalition was built on disaffection with conservatives, which was most pronounced along the coasts. So while the Republicans can dream of whatever coalition they want, the next successful Republican coalition will be built by capitalizing on disaffection with Democrats.
Thats why the wave of new polls showing a decline in President Barack Obamas approval rating are potentially important. Its not that these polls show Republicans poised to take back the White House by 2016, or something. Thats way too far away. Instead, the polls give us an idea of which voters are peeling away from Obama and, therefore, might be most receptive to switching sides if the GOP could craft a message for them. Trying to win over the voters sticking with Obama would presumably be more difficult.

How? Did the white working class take an econ course? A true history lesson? Did they read a book?
Why would the President care about wooing voting block he is trying to annihilate ?
I wonder why?
Democrats are the party of blacks and white liberal elites.
He's not going to lose the IRS.
I hear JJ Abrams is releasing a movie about it later in the summer.
Even if he is, he doesn’t need them for anything.
The entire article is focused on arguing this point.
The problem is in making that appeal. Republicans are the worst salesmen for conservatism.
wait for it - like Rush said this afternoon - there’s going to be an explosion of wealth coming from the Middle Class! They will save the US from economic destruction -— yeah Middle Class! ...Look - I’m a hero - Mom!
That’s several minutes I’ll never get back. What a waste of time that crap was.
until the GOPe get out of the way and we put up a good candidate it won’t matter....any moron could’ve beaten ayatollah obama last November if they had the will to win....
More likely they perceive themselves in the crosshairs of racial targeting after the way Barry handled the Trayvon affair.
They write articles like this as if it matters at this point. He won. Unless his popularity reaches toxic levels, it doesn’t matter what his approval rating is or which voting blocks he loses. The press carried him over the finish line in 2012 and now it just doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t matter. He won
He is going to steal as much more as he can and then establish the marxist utopia beyond the limits of his power.
There is only one sure fire way of preventing his tyranny
One of the most liberal magazines this side of ‘out and out’ Communism? They're giving us advice? Yeah, well thanks and no thanks.
What the left needs to worry about is becoming the party of elites propped up by a black and 'illegals' criminal underclass... AKA a banana republic.
Well, I fit the most common modern definition of “working class,” and I’ve read quite a number of books.
To quote Hillary, “What difference does it make now!” They already voted the bum back into office.
