Obamacare Health Insurance Rebates: Who Gets a Check?

An estimated 8.5 million Americans will receive rebates from their health insurers this summer thanks to the Affordable Care Act, which says companies that fail to spend at least 80 percent of premiums on health care must refund the difference to consumers.

The amount of the individual rebates varies widely by state and insurance company, depending on whether a consumer's insurer was in compliance with the law.

The largest average rebates will be seen in Washington state, where 3,007 consumers will receive an average $512 this summer. In Massachusetts, more than 473,000 people will see an average rebate of $457.

Other parts of the country will see lower average rebates, indicating that insurers in those states are meeting the so-called "80/20 rule" under Obamacare.

More than 633,000 New Yorkers will see an average rebate of $92 this summer, while in Missouri an average $72 will be refunded to 457,000 residents.

Let me guess... "rebates" will only go to those who DON'T buy insurance. Those of us who actually do pay for our own insurance will probably just get notices about more rate increases. Redistribution of wealth in action.

Exactly! Obama is such a putz! We get back $161 but in two months will probably go up another $150 per month like it did last year! Under Bush we had about $40-$50/year increases, under Obama that’s doubled or more.

More likely - someone who is not you and pays no "rate" in the first place, will have theirs figured as: The estimated rate would be $900/month. You paid nothing because the tax payers have your back. Since the rate you aren't paying is really too high, we will rebate you to the tune of $150/month.

Meanwhile, most of the available jobs in my industry, graphic design, are contract jobs, and my wife is barely clinging to a 30 hour week, to keep our health insurance.
